Anyone Remember Gene Pitney?
Other
He was my idol in the 60s and I knew the lyrics of all his songs by heart.
I had a lovely time with him on YouTube last night and remembered fondly when I was lucky enough to see him in concert around 90/91.
I was heartbroken to see an in memorium notice come up after one of his songs saying he died in 2006. That wasn't widely told as I did not know. I worked out he was only 65, younger than I am!
I had assumed he was enjoying his retirement in USA.
If you remember him what was your favourite song? I really can't choose as I loved them all but will mention 'I'm Gonna be Strong'.
The man whose tonsils you could see! Yep used to watch him with my Nana. Died in Cardiff while on tour. Favourite is 24 hours from Tulsa.
I must admit I shed a tear as he was so much a part of my youth. I was stupidly p!eased that his wife had the same name as me!
He came into my consciousness when he duetted with Marc Almond singing Somethings Gotten hold of my heart.
I also enjoyed 24 hours from Tulsa.
That was the first one I watched last night as I loved that version, it was a good collaboration. Have a listen to The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
My sister is a good bit older than me and was mad on Gene Pitney! Like you, I can still remember the words to most of his songs as she played his records so much! Especially Walk and 24 hours from Tulsa.
You must be lots younger lol! Although I am sure you would recognise lots of his songs if you heard them though. He also wrote for other artists and he wrote Peggy Sue and Rubber Ball.
I mainly know him from the song, Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart, that he did with Marc Almond.
