Anyone Been Uninvited to a Lockdown Wedding?

Ask a Question

My husbands cousin was set to get married in June of this year, but they emailed us a couple of weeks ago to say the wedding was cancelled. Turns out, they haven’t cancelled it and lots of the family received their invites last week. We are assuming they have had to cut back on numbers due to Covid restrictions, which is fine but my husband is fuming that they didn’t just say that, instead of telling us it was cancelled and hoping we didn’t see all the photos or hear from anyone else! We heard from my in laws when we saw their invite on the mantelpiece..

Have you been uninvited to a wedding due to a drop in numbers? How did they tell you?

Thats mad that they weren't upfront about it. One of my friends announced to everyone she would have to cut numbers. Its better to be upfront with these sorts of things!

Yep, we would have completely understood if we were told the truth but surely they expect us to talk to my husbands parents! And we might notice when all the photos are all over social media...

Aww such a shame they weren't upfront about it. I'm sure a stressful and sad time for them with all the changes, but honesty is key!

My friend rearranged 3 times and in the end, only the girls were invited on her side (no partners) and same with guys on his side. They found it the fairest way to have their friends and stuck to numbers.

It also went from a full wedding to a 30min church service.

that’s an interesting way of doing it! Although surely that would be difficult to do with couples, saying ”you can come but your husband / wife cant!“

SarahBenne67061 they found it so so hard, and were limited to 25 people in total. After postponing 3 times, we were just happy to see them get married. They would have loved nothing more than having their original wedding and all their family and friends!

My daughter has had to postpone her May wedding abroad until next year. She has advised her guests. She then decided to get legally married this year anyway as it will make the process easier next year. So she’s having the civil ceremony on the original date with just immediate family in attendance - twelve people. Her extended family and friends aren’t aware of this, as she still wants her wedding next year to feel special, and the real celebration.

Maybe your relative is doing something similar and will have a party when restrictions allow?

That’s actually what we did, we just had my husbands parents and got married in a registry office in September after our June 2020 wedding got cancelled.. we plan on having a party at some point. But we’ve asked around and there’s a lot who have been invited and were never told it was cancelled so they obviously knew what they were doing at the time 🤷🏻‍♀️

SarahBenne67061 that’s a poor way of doing things and a bit sneaky. Did they think those who were uninvited wouldn’t find out? I would be quite hurt. I’d rather just have been told honestly that plans had changed. People eh?

I haven't the people I know my generation are either married or happy to just live together and younger generation too young but I totally agree they need to be honest
