Apple iPhone SE

Other

I’ve heard another version of the SE is coming out next month, so I’m wondering if it’s worth getting the first SE phone now

It‘s for my dad, who is elderly and has limited understanding of technology - his iPhone 4 is too old to be of use, so I want to upgrade him, but nothing too fancy as it’ll be a waste, as he’d never utilise the functions an up to date model has

does anyone have an SE? And would you recommend it?

Thanks for the tip. I’ve got the 5 and 6 myself, and though I probably could just upgrade myself and give him one of my old phones, I’d rather just give him a new phone. Thanks again

Probably this. Or give him an Android phone instead which is a lot cheaper than an iPhone, anyway. There's launchers to make an Android theme look iPhone'd but rarely anyone does that (too basic and simplistic).

I recently got an Android phone for €5 (part of a membership offer) and in terms of its quality, it's a phone that normally would go for £50-60. Really impressed with it and that I got for so little.

Rockman thanks for the recommendation, but I’m avoiding android because, as I’ve said, he’s not tech savvy and I don’t have the patience to teach him how to use his phone. As his current phone is iPhone 4 (and he barely utilises it’s functions) the SE should be similar enough for him to understand without bugging me 😝

All his friends get their fantastic phones from China, which cost a fraction of the price of the phones here. And what do they use them for? Just videos and photos! I’ve told him to bug them about it, but he chooses to bug me instead. Lol!

hspexy Android isn't that complicated. Just install the usual apps, sign in to the usual places and there you go.

Anything else, that might require a little knowledge.

Rockman yeh that’s simple for people like us who can use tech fluidly. My dad will have issues installing, loading, accessing...i.e. he would be starting from scratch with android, and as he has an iPad, an Apple phone will definitely sync better. It’s actually one of the reasons why I’ve stuck with Apple over the years, although the number of China brands that have come out lately are tempting me over

hspexy Sounds like it's definitely much better to go with an iPhone for him then.

I tried getting used to use Windows Phones but they had such clustered, complicated menus it took me ages to find anything. Even something as simple as the browser and gallery, and settings. I'm kinda glad the Windows Phone flopped.

Rockman oh gosh, I remember hating the Windows phones too. Thought as I used Windows for work, it’ll be easy, but as you’ve said, it’s too cluttered and not user friendly

hspexy It's kinda funny that Microsoft doesn't even offer support for Windows Phones on Windows 10. Well, Windows Phones were discontinued after all.

I’ve got an SE. I’ve had it for 2 years now and it’s great. It’s simple enough to use if youre familiar with IOS

Thanks for your feedback. One of the greatest things about Apple is that once you’ve got an Apple product, everything syncs up, so definitely good to know that the SE is a good choice to have
