Asking Amazon Sellers for a Better Price

Money Saving

I don't know if any of you have tried this, but do - it can work!

I noticed yesterday that I'd missed out on a great price for a product, so I emailed the seller. They said they couldn't go as low as I wanted as they'd be selling at a loss (I presume it was another seller who undercut them with a postage cost on top, so hopefully I didn't miss out!).

Anyway, while they couldn't go as low as I'd have liked, they did reduce the price by a few pounds for me, and have been very friendly and helpful in emails too.

The item (massage tool) is still at the lower price too, so I've posted it in case anyone is interested.

So if you ever want a lower price, maybe consider being cheeky and just asking!

Id feel cheeky asking whats the best price on amazon 🤣 i mean its fine on ebay, in bootsales & when we go on holidays to Turkey but i wouldnt consider it anywhere else. I watched a programme before with Dom and he had people going in shops and asking for discounts on furniture and stuff 🙈

I kind of felt cheeky too. But I had noticed it was previously cheaper, so thought why not ask - they've sold out cheaper before.

I'm shops, I agree, I feel weird and cheeky. However, I have successfully done it once in M&S, asking for a percentage discount that they regularly give in sales, and it worked.

MeestairChrees I don't think I could do this, even behind a screen, but thanks for making me look at your offers - amazing pen pots price - hope I get them. Great share.

angemski no problem, glad to be of help! You can always phrase it in the least cheeky way like I did - asking if they're able to offer the price they did a few days ago for example.

Well done. Never thought to ask Amazon sellers for a discount lol. I do sometimes ask in shops though if I am buying more than one of something. And I will always ask if they have student discount etc

I tended to only use student discount where I knew it was accepted and didn't ask many other places. NUS card has expired now unfortunately.

A good one to ask for in shops is clearance stuff, especially if bulk buying. I once asked (small local chain) what they could do for me if I wanted everything left in a certain pile of clearance stuff - they reduced them down quite a bit cheaper than their already cheap clearance price.

I think it can work with some of the sellers, but not all of them.

No doubt. And I think it will be situation dependent too. I'm somewhat surprised it worked this time, because they already had the cheapest option on Amazon by quite a bit, and still went down for me!

Not always. Sometimes the product isn't on ebay. Sometimes Amazon is cheaper. Sometimes other sites are cheaper.

MeestairChrees I didn't mean ebay was the cheapest website, and didn't mean always...

there are other cheap websites.

like www.joom.com or everything4five.com , zazzle.com, etsy.com

I can get beautiful tops and skirts from £2.50- £8 and very good material, some are very thick material but

not all obviously.

which that same top or skirt on amazon is normally 2x 's or 3x's or even 4x's the price of what's on ebay.

Essential oils, bicarbonate soda, handbags, cooking oil, cough sweets, pillows, duvets are normally

cheaper then amazon price and I can go on...

I will say 90% of the time whatever your looking for on ebay it is there...

THE ADVICE I WOULD GIVE EVERYONE IS, check out all the cheap websites before you buy your products

and then make a decision which is cheaper or better.

that's how I do it..😃 🙂

At least 80% of the time when I do it this way, ebay normally turns out to be the cheapest... 👍 😉

nicoledbradburn I definitely agree to shop around. Amazon tend to have good prices for popular products, and expensive prices for less popular products. Reason being they like to undercut competitors for products that people search for, so customers assume they're cheapest. Then when adding other stuff to their basket, don't check that they're chair elsewhere (and they likely will be). Sneaky tactic!
