Lots of logistics problems for many industries as goods aren't arriving from China this includes products manufactured outside of China but using Chinese components. So if you are planning to make a major purchase there is the possibility of prices increasing for such items. It might be worth making that purchase now rather than see the price drift upwards over the coming months.
I was just reading elsewhere of Chinese suppliers increasing lead times for orders or even cancelling orders and more importantly increasing prices so this will have a knock on effect to us.
Even s/hand prices could increase too as there is more demand for products that cannot be purchased new.
There is still the possibility of discounting though, some firms may be in a desperate financial situation due to this and be pretty desperate for sales but overall it should lead to higher prices in my opinion.
And in the supermarkets! Today was get some food day after the house move and so many things for eg, tinned carrots, none on shelves. Most of the toilet roll gone. Now I have a box full of toilet rolls, which is somewhere in my garage, but I can't get to it yet. Cleaning products not in stock. I haven't been able to stock pile due the move and I couldn't get just some general food items, let alone cleaning products like anti bac wipes. Luckily, I do have a good bleach and pine disinfectant supply already.
My husband is a hgv driver and he was saying that containers weren’t coming in due to this few staff laid off due to no work shops nothing pretty much left but what is making me laugh about it did people not clean there house or was their hands before this virus
Yes we have panic buying now but my point was about the factories in China that are currently closed in some regions or factories forced to close because they cannot get raw materials or a smaller erratic supply. The logistics of this might mean 1-2 months there are far less goods being received in the UK. This is especially true of major products that have electrical parts like cars meaning small but critical components prevent cars being manufactured in Europe, US and Japan etc.
