Baby Refuses Bottles

OK my daughter is just over a year and she point blanks refuses a bottle (she was breast fed)
Any ideas what else I can try at bed time?

Lynibis Cmon Lyn thats a bit OTT you need to be giving it to them every day for months - Besides you lose your baby teeth anyway!
garygemmell not at all OTT. Once a child tastes the sweetness on that bottle she will not take it without, in fact will probably stop sucking once the sweetness is sucked away. So in order for her to continue with the bottle she will want it every time. Once any child has a taste for sugar they begin to push away healthy food but see how quickly they will gobble dessert after refusing dinner. That is why so many kids are overweight and we have an obesity crisis. Sweets used to be a treat maybe once or twice a week, now kids eat them at least every day, sometimes more, and they will not stop once their baby teeth have gone, then it is a lifetime of fillings and toothache. Kids are not aware unless adults make them aware. Try to get kids to 3 or 4 without too much sugar and hopefully they will not develop a taste for it.
Lynibis Ok I dont have kids so I will go with your assessment of the effect presuming of course you have had kids! I get it and with the fact parents these days have no discipline in the household that probably makes what you say truthful - in my day you did what you were told or it was a smack or bed early lol

garygemmell yes I had two boys, mischievous and spirited but disciplined as well as my husband was RN and I was ex WRNS. They are now in their 40s but I have 3 grandchildren too and for the last 9 years have worked with children in care. Studying their behaviour has been an eye opener. One of the conclusions I have come to is that children actually like having order and discipline in their lives, also routine.
Will she drink from a sippy cup? If she drinks from a cup then just use that at bed time or try a bottle that has a more nibble like treat. Minbie bottles or Nuk bottles are good for that. Otherwise the only thing to do is persevere.
She drinks from a cup fine but won't use sippy cups sadly. I thought maybe one of those no spill baby cups.
dholly39 yeah they are good, try one of the 360 miracle cups, they are brilliant. Also it's perfectly normal. My son loves his bottle, refused to drink from a sippy cup till he was 13 months. It was all about perseverance, kept offering it to him throughout the day, leaving it where he could see it and eventually he picked it up himself and drank from it.
She won't be used to the feel of a teat if breastfed, you could try buying a nipple guard and breastfeeding her whilst wearing it, then put the bottle in her mouth.
My son still wakes up loads in the night. It could be a number of things not connected to her feeds.
My babies did not have bottles at that age and I am not surprised she refuses if she has been used to breast feeding. It is probably time for her to be drinking from a baby cup, try during the day and then give her bedtime drink in it too.
My little one has always been the same unfortunately. He drinks his morning milk from a sippy cup but I’ve still not managed to wean him off the breast for bed, I don’t even know where to start 
It's so difficult isn't it! She's having none of it!
I breastfed my other kids but neever had this problem.
your health visitor would have recommended a sippy cup buy 12 months give it a try and breast before bed your child is still a baby and will need comforting

dholly39 hopefully she will take to one for you my 3 year old still loves a bottle and I will let her use it until she ready yep it's a comforter

This is perfectly normal so don't worry. I would suggest trying the nuby night and day pack of cups from boots (£6.99) or the munchkin or Nuby 360 cups. I bought a range of different cups and they were all refused at the start, now she'll use any. Good luck.

dholly39 good luck, it really does take time. I remember my eldest would only use the really cheap ones from the poundshop, they weren't the nicest looking ones but he liked it.
