Back in the Pub Today , First Stage towards the near Normal ?
In the News
I realise many members don't give a hoot about the fact that Pubs with outside space were allowed to open today .
For me it was great , meeting up with friends (some who I haven't seen for months ) in a controlled managed environment . Although it did get a bit nippy after 6pm .
The Pub is our traditional social hub , face to face conversation - all the things that social media , beloved of so many lacks .
Post your snidey replies on here if you wish , Duck's back TBH and my sympathy .
Didn't need 10 pints - just the two over a couple of hours and more genuine interaction in a couple of hours than you could get in a year on social media .
Not a pub person but get to do a beer run in next coming days in wales pubs still not open yet but hubby can’t wait for pint after work on a Saturday
We were nattering about that today - it's not about the alcohol , some of my friends don't even drink alcohol ! Its about the the banter or perhaps more personal serious discussions .
You can get the alcohol or soft drinks far cheaper at the Supermarkets if that's your thing but you cannot get the face to face social interaction . And I don't include "imaginary friends" on social media as mates ! .
Golfforall he always like to be stocked up for the unexpected friend just needing a chat or have a can with neighbour on drive plus for us buying from your end of supermarket a lot cheaper
This is fantastic that pubs are back open as my daughter is a landlady and needs to make money again
I'm sure she will do , if she's as careful and stringent with the rules as ours was today . They even had hot water bottles on demand for later on ! I left about 6 as it was getting distinctly nippy .
I feel sorry for those who think that interaction and imaginary friends on social media is the norm . A pub is certainly not the cheapest way to get tanked up , but as we said tonight we pay the premium for the banter and socialising .
Golfforall My daughters first day went very well, people had booked tables in advance and social distancing was adhered to. She is lucky to have a garden with shelters and heating.
Rubbish photo but shows how our landlord has repurposed a dodgem enclosure (sadly no dodgems ! ) along with patio heaters to provide a seating area in the beer garden . I presume we'll be back to our normal benches when the fairs restart .
Golfforall This looks a great idea, my daughter has a very large gazebo but unfortunately she lost the last one due to strong winds.
Since covid struck I felt it was another blow (nail in the coffin) for the pub industry. I hope that most of them will survive but believe that we have already lost some that couldn't cope with the prolonged closure. The act of going to the pub to interact with your friends, eat, drink, & talk together, is wonderful and can't be replaced with anything else that I can think of. Very glad you enjoyed your outing.
I love the pub and good on you for going I am holding out till the weekend.
Long live the pub !!!
Can't believe the overcrowding shown on tv. It is mad, no distancing at all and meeting up with friends from many households all squashed together even outside. May as well be inside the blinking pubs.
Like anything or anywhere . I dare say at some places (frequented by idiots ) it was as you say . But apparently everyone behaved here .
I am really jealous Golfforall! I don’t think the bars here in Ireland are opening before June. It must have felt great to be out socialising with your friends and enjoying a drink.
I passed our local bar today and I REALLY wanted a wine in the beer garden.
It was great , but it'll only be so for as long as folks enjoy a drink and socialising in a responsible fashion . If only people realise that you can have a drink with friends without being a total idiot
