You can't expect to become a master baker overnight, there will be failures along the way but you learn from them and tweak your recipes for next time.

Rock cakes are really easy and quick to make. I found this recipe https://bakingwithgranny.co.uk/recipe/rock-buns/

You can substitute the dried fruit for other things too, such as chocolate chips, coconut, fudge pieces

Yes ... rock cakes are a doddle and that's coming from a 'baker' who has a fair amount of failures!!! Will try to remember to sort the recipe for you..... I do it in my mixer.

I don't bake, as I'm the only one in the house who has a sweet tooth. But hopefully you find something you fancy

I'm planning on making galaxy brownies tomorrow its from a packet but easier when cooking for kids. Had homemade burgers for tea. Really depends on what you like personally I find savoury easier as you can taste as you go and tweek the flavours

Anything members could advise you could find on google. Just search for whatever recipes you want and loads will come up, you can create an online folder as I have and add or delete.

I agree but at the same time, my most favourite veggie dish came from a Reader's Digest magazine 20 years ago and I've never found a similar one since. .... Same with the ginger cookie recipe I use .... have had it for yonks and I know it works ... The other problem I had with one of the sites was that they made a few of my saved recipes 'no longer available' for some sort of legal reason...can't recall exactly, so now I make sure to save locally too.

A good place for a novice baker is Delia Smith (deliaonline). There is a wealth of information on her site including videos!

tumblespots and itsjadexo I agree about Delia .... have got some of her books and they really helped me. Am going to try to upload the Rock cakes recipe but basically - it's Mary Berry's -I macine process/rub flour, bkg powder and marg and then stir in fruit, then add egg and milk and Bob's yer uncle Image

tumblespots I hadn't either, then we got invited down to an elderly neighbour for coffee (pre-Covid!) ... and he served them ... I couldn't believe how easy ...and they freeze too. On a down note tho, Joe our collie had a very swishy tail and smashed the delicate cup and saucer I had carefully placed on the LOW coffee table ...😫 Image

BORDERJOE Yes, there were some very naughty (head in a box - of their own choice naughty) woofers. Such a shame about the cup & saucer though, I hope your elderly neighbour still speaks to you, even if from a distance these days.
