Banning under 25s in Pubs to Keep Everyone Else Safe

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-53331493

A pub in Oxfordshire has banned under 25s in the evenings after some drinkers refused to adhere to its coronavirus social distancing measures

So the under 25s are the only ones who are hard to control?

My parents are mid 70s and they don't adhere to the social distancing rules.

They are sooooooo infuriating.

hspexy They are behaving like children to be honest. They don't think that they're going to get Covid as the levels here in SW Wales are quite low. And they think that if they do get it, they'll be fine.

I've had my sister read them the Riot Act, but they don't listen.

Ban everyone from pubs would be a better idea. At this point there are idiots who are any age. A blanket ban on under 25s would just cause people to gather elsewhere in big groups .😂

Very true. On Saturday, Soho was haemorrhaging people celebrating the pubs reopening. Once people get drunk, there’s no stopping them

One pub isn't going to have much of an impact. Plus, under 25s will just go to a different pub or buy alcohol from a shop. Although, people are not social distancing as soon as they enter pubs rather than just when they get drunk. There simply isn't enough room in or around most busy pubs for it to work. Plus, a lot of people simply don't want to stand apart from friends if they are going to be talking more than a couple of minutes. When I walk around my local green spaces you can see most groups of friends are not social distancing and they are not consuming any alcohol.

I do not think so they should ban all the under 25...How will u even know that? Check everyone`s ID when they want to enter?

I doubt they’d do that. Most likely they had a lot of complaints from older customers to make that decision

Why just under 25's? i think older people are just as bad if not worse. I was in lidl and some old woman was practically standing on top of me because she wanted to look where i was and that was without any alcohol. I've seen loads of the older generation walking about saying whats the fuse about covid and it doesnt bother me!

Why not just not escort outside whoever does not adhere? You know... You don't have to be bias....

sounds ridiculous, but I am sure the owners of that particular pub are aware that it is certain groups who cause a nuisance, although from experience being irresponsible can happen with any age group

Yes I suspect they’re doing it because they are in an area of a certain demographic, where there’s possibly more older than younger people about

It's the alcohol that makes normally sensible adults in to petulant children/ (she types with a Guinness next to her lol)

Lol yes alcohol and being sensible doesn’t mix 😂 In fact a park near me has banned people from consuming alcohol, but not sure how easy that will be to enforce

It’s up to the pub which rules they want to set I suppose but I don’t think banning under 25s will rule out all those who will be hard to control as they could be any age

Its unfair on the younger generation taring them all with same brush when the older generation are just as bad

While I've seen some older people not be careful, younger people seem far worse. I'm someone who has had covid 19 and still worried about whether I'm contagious. I'm probably immune myself now but still have a very minor sore throat and if I sneeze or cough it can make my breathing a little difficult for a very short while but a few days ago I went for a walk that must have been about 6 miles in total and I felt as fit as I ever was in recent times so feel like I'm 99% over it but my point is I'm not concerned for myself I'm concerned for others and don't want them near me but mothers with children, younger adults and rather obstinate look elderly people keep coming too close. We don't know enough about this virus and how it effects different people to take chances. I believe I got the virus back in early January and for about 10-12 weeks had minor symptoms and then finally had a huge reaction to it with breathing difficulties etc. None of that is like how the NHS informs you how the virus works. At first they didn't believe I could have had it from about mid January and then they didn't believe I could have had light symptoms for as long as 10-12 weeks. When I was in hospital there was an italian nurse who thought my situation was quite normal and expected based on many Italian people who have a similar story but the UK medical services didn't have as much experience with it at that point.

Personally I think its sensible to ban under 25's I think you will capture a huge amount of very stupid people in that group. In all honesty I think that's pretty much when humanity is it's most stupid and inconsiderate. If you look at crime statistics that age group relates to a huge amount of crime. I realise there are many fantastically intelligent and responsible people in that age group but also has a very high percentage of inconsiderate morons focused only on themselves.

BonzoBanana I can talk from experience.

I have 2 idiot over 70s parents who are oblivious to the pandemic and they are very intelligent people.

I've also got idiot under 25s in the family who are going to illegal raves and gatherings all the time even though one of them should be shielding.

Why not the over 60's who dont care about covid? I dont think it should be targeted at age group? Just ban anyone whose acting stupid regardless of the age.

TheChimp To be honest I think banning people over 60 going to pubs etc would be pretty sensible anyway, even if they act responsibly they are much more vulnerable to the virus.

I still think a 3 drink limit would be sensible too.

My mother is absolutely paranoid about this virus and frightened to go to shops etc. She has once or twice but has regretted it.

Getsome The over 60's and the under 25's are the ones flouting the rules.

You wouldn't believe how peeded off I am with my family members.

Anyway, I'd advise everyone to stock up now, because we're going to get another lockdown.

I disagree on the under 25s are out of control I personally say if you ban under 25s then you should ban over 25s too. Ban everyone

Yes it seems like they favour a blanket approach rather than tackling the main issue, which is to stop serving intoxicated customers

I think it is disgusting that under 25 year olds are being discriminated against because they are under 25. I know lots of under 25's that completely adhere to the rules to protect their loved ones. I also know many over 60 year olds who couldn't care less and believe the whole thing is a conspiracy. There isn't a definite age group that is to blame for the spread of the virus, it was inevitable so we should stop proportioning blame and work together to figure it out and lower the pass rate, not create an accusing atmosphere in my opinion 🤨
