Are We Becoming Too Sensitive?
Other
'If you've been affected by any issues raised in this programme.............'
This was what a strange voice trotted out at the end of the third episode of Catherine the Great.
I was greatly affected, not by the programme but by the announcement!
Really? Why would anyone be affected by 18th century events when they must know there will be violence, war and other unsavoury topics. Just don't watch. I have seen far worse in the soaps and other series like GOT.
In my opinion that's absolutely ridiculous. If we were talking about something in recent history eg Holocaust maybe but 18th century? What the heck.
I didn't watch it but were there any particular issues that might affect people's mental health related to things that they could be going through? Things like domestic violence, sexual abuse or suicide has been happening for centuries but still affect people.
There were none of the things you mentioned, just the odd muted battle scenes, and for a change no nudity which I found quite refreshing. It was so low key compared to other really gratuitous series on tv.......Versailles, Outlander, GOT, Black Sails etc. and that was what added to the absurdity of the announcement. That someone could be so fragile as to be seriously affected by shenanigans in the 1700s. If someone's mental health is that serious they should not be watching tv at all as you cannot get away from the seedy, violent and downright unpleasant side of life.
Are people in general getting too sensitive? 50/50.
Even the great late Robin Williams is attacked online as he's called "transphobic" because of the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. If these progressives understood the meaning of the movie they wouldn't bash it, but it fits their agenda to do so.
You allow people to get offended over everything, and then they complain about everything. It's why I don't use Facebook, Twitter or etc.
Yes! We are becoming too sensitive which seems crazy when you consider all of the programmes that are on tv on a regular basis. Some of these progs would have been declared obscene only ten years ago and yet we are becoming inured to them. To warn us that we may be offended by a history piece is plain stupid and I agree, the warning is the most offensive.
Yes people are getting MUCH too sensitive. Even digging up things from the past to be offended about that didn't bother anyone back in the day.
Annoys me no end
The problem is that though there are those who are truly sensitive, there are others who seem to want to shout the loudest to champion sensitive issues, most likely to get attention and perhaps some kind of compensation. These are the ones who spoil it for everyone
Of course were becoming too soft and sensitive I can understand people might have mental health or other issues going on just dont watch or listen instead of complaining over social media
I think a lot of mental health issues are caused BECAUSE we are too soft. Everyone is sheltered from all types of hardship or character building situations and then can't cope when something bad happens.
On the other hand this protection does not extend to protecting children from adult things like violence in games, films, comics, sexual content in magazines, tv etc. They can even access *********** on their tech, war and death in the news......these are the things that cause kids stress and worry.
Growing up I didn't understand many of those things and mostly worried about hearing my dad coughing his breath away every morning, (smoker) and the horrors of a possible nuclear war.
We need to protect kids from the above, not playing tag or clapping!
