Best Bit of Advice Youve Received or given

Other

I’ve been given lots of advice throughout my life (some not always appreciated at the time , although I’ve learned that it was well needed ). What’s the best advice you have given or received?

Let’s share our words of wisdom with each other Image

Don't gamble. Put the money into a saving account instead and it will still be yours months and years later.

jam45 that’s a great one . Also if you thinking of taking out credit, put the money you would have to pay weekly into savings account then when you have enough make your purchase without having to pay any interest

jam45 I have to agree with you on that. I worked in a casino for 19 years. I saw how much people could lose. One person lost everything. His house. His business. His late fathers business and then his wife and kids left him

TracyStorrie oh that's so sad I was going down that route playing in casino at all hour s of the morning losing money in the end I gave up as it did my mental health in and it stopped being fun even a few times thinking of doing myself in to get away from debt etc. But I banned myself from all casinos land and online for life and with the help of my wife I stopped

jdible I knew a man who over the space of a year won a million pounds (no lie) in one casino and then lost it all and more in the casino I worked and he ended up committing suicide. I’m so glad you had the support you needed to get through it ♥️

There's always someone worse off than yourself . It's hard to see that when you are feeling low but no point feeling sorry for ourselves we not only ones having hard times and some are worse off but managing to carry on day by day

brianmnicholson very true and no point wasting time feeling sorry for ourselves if we can’t change the situation, just look for positivity in our lives and things we can do

No man's an island!.

Basically saying that we all need help from time to time. I'll add to that by saying it's not embarrassing to say you need help . Ppl seem to find it hard asking for help but we shouldn't because like the advice says "no man's an island"

The best advice I was given by my mum was, if you can't say anything nice don't say anything.

Only give advice when someone asks for it, don't force it on to people. I find some people like to give it out and expect people to follow it when it's very easy to do so when it isn't you who will face the consequences if it goes wrong.

I had a stupid debt that was preventable (done by a family member), then one day I searched for "credit card debt family" on YouTube and a Dave Ramsey video showed up. From that point on I decided to just get rid of it. I was tired of paying the minimum and paid it in full.

Don't make the same mistake. I'll add anyone else to my cards or lend them money, even if family.

They want to borrow money? Well, there's CC, Payday Loans, Pawn, etc for them to do, except asking those close to them.

PhilipMarc Good advice, I never lend money to anyone. Took me five years to get a few hundred I lent a relative in the 90's. And I could have done with that two years after when circumstances changed for me.

Btw, I think you mean I'll not add, or I'll never add...

Xenophon Another problem is that people tend to spend more than they actually have and with cards, some don't realize their bank account may be getting slimmer. However, with cash they'd be aware as the more they spend, the less they have.

Mr. Vobes made an interesting video about people managing their money:

My dad always told me, if you can't afford it don't buy it. It is advice that I still follow today. We save up for something if we need it. Its not worth getting into debt.

MrsCraig very good advice and most times by the time you’ve saved up to purchase what you wanted you realise you didn’t actually want it in first place

Nickyhaslam77 for us it is saving for when we need to buy a new car, for getting new flooring, if the fridge goes, that kind of thing.

MrsCraig I think when you’ve saved up for something you appreciate it more knowing you’ve worked hard for it

Never go to sleep on an argument - always resolve your differences before bed and don't let them fester.

tumblespots that’s another great one my mum always tells everyone. As well as not letting the argument fester and get out of proportion, you’ll also get a good nights sleep

I was once asked "Do you like everybody you meet ?" to which I responded No and was asked " So, why you expect everyone to like you? ". It made me think, why do I care what other people think of me, sometimes you meet someone and you just don't click, there is no reason why.

Save for a rainy day. I have always tried to do this but still enjoy life. But takes some pressure off knowing you have something in the bank for those emergencies.

Suggested to my sister to buy some Carnival shares when the price for 100 was less than £60. Before her cruise she applied for shareholders OBC and given £150 to spend. Obviously I’m in her good books.

When I was about 17 I was given advice from a very old gentleman saying there is nothing round here for you. So I moved to Blackpool Llandudno and now live in Scotland.
