Best Concealer for Mature Skin? Does Anyone Have Anymore Tips, Please?

Ask a Question

How to pick the best concealer for mature skin.

(6 min read approx.)

Consider the level of coverage you need and whether you have a combination, of oily or dry skin. As skin 'matures,' we may have to assess the products we’re using and their textures to see if they still work with our skin type.

I find when working with mature skin, products that are lighter and hydrating in texture are better, and less is always more! Liquid concealers or creamy light textures blend better than heavier textures that may leave make-up sitting on the skin causing that "cakey effect.”

Caring for the skin beneath the make-up becomes more important than ever. Concealer that cares for skin as it covers allows the skin to stay hydrated and alleviates symptoms like dryness and enhanced fine lines.

A creamy formula infused with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid is ideal. The formula glides on, looks hydrating, and helps to give skin a plumped, luminous finish.

How to find the best concealer shade!

One top tip that might surprise you? Don’t go lighter.

As tempting as it might be to opt for a shade lighter colour-wise, I’d recommend choosing a shade that matches your skin tone exactly.

Sometimes people opt to use a lighter shade to brighten their eyes, but this may highlight things you may prefer to play down, like pigmentation or redness. A perfect colour match can be used to cover dark circles, pigmentation, redness and anything else you may wish to disguise.

How can you make concealer last longer?

To help your concealer stay in place, try locking it in before as well as after application. Make sure your skin is moisturised and well-prepped. Undereye cream can give a smooth base that allows your concealer to slide on and blend effortlessly.

Want to use a setting powder? Proceed with caution. “Use a soft translucent setting powder, like IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores, that’s made with silk, not talc. It will help lock your make-up into place and encourage longer wear without looking dry or cakey.”

It may also be helpful to avoid applying too much concealer. Using thin, strategically placed layers can be key for achieving a crease-free finish.

Can primer help concealer not crease?

If you’re finding that your concealer settles into fine lines, applying an eyeshadow primer first can be a great addition to your routine. Acting as a stealthy undercoat, it helps skin appear smooth, creating the perfect base for your make-up.

I use YSL touché eclat it’s available in many shades. Apply lightly and then another layer if necessary.

Pjran Thanks so much. I know a lot of ladies perfer Charlotte Tillysbury but I find its too much coverage for me. I like a more natural look so perhaps something buildable like the one you've mentioned would be great to try...ThankQ!

Also... is it natural looking and cannot deal with orange or anything cakey...?

Thanks again for your help! Lx
