The Best Place to Retire in the UK

Other

There is a league table of the best and worse places to retire and live in the UK

Bangor in Gwynedd, North West Wales has been voted the top place

The considerations were the cost at the restaurants, transport costs, utilities bills , leisure activities and cloths. Crime rates, health and pollution levels were another factor

Another result was the north beat the south in these considerations

London topped the list of the worst 10 locations to retire, followed by Southend-On-Sea, Norfolk, Worcester, Rochester, Boston, Halifax, Windsor, Surrey and Perth

Heres the table of best and following best

I know wales is a lot cheaper for most things such as housing so it was not a surprise for me to see a welsh city at the forefront

And london would always be up there as being the most expensive, especially property wise

Somewhere rural, peaceful and quiet.

Of course, for this a person needs to know how to drive 'cause there won't be buses (perhaps from hour to hour or whatever), metro or train. Maybe taxis (would probably end up getting expensive).

Was this UK or just GB? Shame Northern Ireland doesn't feature at all. Some beautiful and scenic places to retire to. Obviously I'm biased, but would have been nice to feature!

Oh wait .... just double checked and belfast is there! Serves me right for skim reading!! 🤭

I personally don’t think rural is a good place to retire, you need to be near a doctor and a good bus route.

My parents retired from Berkshire to Skegness last year. Best thing they ever did. By the beach, great friendly neighbours and they love it up there. My parents are more relaxed and always have something to do

We live near Spilsby, very close to Skeg. I am so pleased that you parents settled in well.

tumblespots not too far! I’m glad they settled in well too, it was quite worrying when they moved up there not knowing a soul and if the neighbours were alright.

kimcress We moved up here from the South Coast and didn't know anyone either but the people here are very friendly, we are planning never to move again.

For me I'd probably like to be in the Bournemouth area or slightly more to the east as its the hottest part of the UK with some beautiful beaches and its quite a well off area with a lot of facilities. Also for cycling don't want too many hills and its relatively flat compared to many areas. It's really down to what you want though most of the time. Many beautiful areas in the UK which are great to visit but not where I would want to retire to. I'm half Cornish and like the idea of retiring to Cornwall and that would be my second choice after the coastal region of Dorset/Hampshire. I'm currently in Somerset and to be honest perfectly happy here though, its about 40 miles to Bournemouth and about 70 miles to Cornwall maybe its a good compromise location. I would definitely like to move closer to the coast maybe 5 miles from it to make it a pleasant and easy cycle ride. For some reason I don't want to be right next to it because I feel that will diminish its charms by having access to it everyday.
