What is the Biggest Issue Facing Your Town?

Ask a Question

What is the biggest issue facing your town right now?

For our town, Crawley, I don't mind the housing, but we have to have the infrastructure to go with them, you can't possibly expect our surgery and school to cope with the extra, nor even the hospitals. I know people need homes and I'm all for it, if only they were affordable or council owned, but they are not.

Lack of Employment opportunities and the general state of deprivation with high council taxes and little to show for them.

Lots of empty shops due to the amount of rent and rates the greedy toe rags at the top charge. Not a lot of job opportunities neither. And our market which used be very big is gradually getting smaller.

Dentist are a nightmare here, the waiting list is currently 5 years for the NHS. Other than that housing is probably the next issue, we need alot more and for them to be affordable.

We have so many rough sleepers hanging around. The council really should have more lodgings for them.

Where I live they have just built a new housing estate, but we only have one small doctors surgery and its difficult enough to get an appointment. I assume there will be similar issues with schools.

Like any town from what I've heard . A rush to build houses on the outskirts . A repeat of a previous development 10 years ago ! Hundreds of houses (now all built !) Community hub and new surgery promised - not happened ! New development promises the same !

I realise the need for housing am not a NIMBY but (although a different developer ) they will not get near moving an inch of soil until the promises of a new community hub , surgery etc are met .

Our nearest maternity services are over an hour away. Not an issue for me now but given what I went through in my pregnancy, things could have been very different.

They are building more houses, so I imagine there will be issues with the GP surgeries, schools, nurseries etc.

We have all those problems here. People have moved out from London into new housing but the proposed new doctor's surgery hasn't materialised.

The high street is pretty grim with lots of empty shops but employment levels are good and generally its fairly positive but we need government policies that punish online ordering more and make the high streets more competitive. Need more taxes on courier services and large out of town warehouses and less business rates on high street shops and lower parking costs. Need more secure bicycle parking to enable people to use bicycles for more shopping trips. Large empty shops should be more like community buildings for indoor carboots, exhibitions, music events, jumble sales for charities, local produce markets etc.
