Free fruit - blackberry picking

Other

I’ve noticed the blackberries in my area are almost ready for picking now, so I’m going to be foraging in a few days time

does anyone else go blackberry picking in their area? Any tips to avoid getting scratched up?

I am terrible 🤣I don't trust my judgement. I see them very often, I can see they blackberries but then I think to myself what if they not? 🤣So I go to the shop and I buy them instead 🙈

Lol I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry. The ones near us are growing on marshland so we know it’s safe and in abundance. We avoid picking the ones near roads or too close to traffic as I’m guessing they wpound not be as nutritious

I am always tempted but I feel like I'd just look odd on my own, used to love doing it when the kids were small.

Yes it’s more fun when there’s a few people helping you out. I often need help to get the ones higher up, the ones that have been kissed by the sun

I use to do this when I was kid. What we do was take a picnic and make a day of it with the family. I think I was eating more then was going in the basket . I've no BlackBerry were I live. We use to make jam. Is that what you do. I do miss going BlackBerry picking.

Lol I certainly will be eating a large quantity before any goes into my Tupperware boxes 😜 I usually freeze them and then use them for desserts or eat them as is as and when I need. I’m not a fan of jam, but I do give some of my pickings away to family and friends so they probably will make jam with them

nicolajaynehend you’re welcome. You can freeze most fruits without problems, mainly fruit with high water content, so berries, citrus fruit. Not bananas or stodgy fruit as they don’t defrost well. Just wash them and drain them, then put them in a tub for the freezer. When you want to eat them, just soak them in water to defrost and use how you please - I use them in yoghurts and ice cream
