Building Works and Rights
Ask a Question
What are the rights regarding deadlines? I have a contract which said it shouldn't take longer that 2 weeks to do the work. A month has gone and they haven't come back for the last week. This is stressing me as I have a small child with me and no kitchen available. Can I claim the money already paid? What can I do?
You need to contact the company that did the work originally. I had a guy do my decking, he used the wrong paint so it washed off, been saying for the last 8 weeks he would come fix it, never showed up. I just let it go as it is showing I can fix myself, but you need to contact them. Read the contract you have with them, it should tell you what you need to know.
You could sue them to get the money back, but you might only get a small amount back.
You don't mention whether you paid upfront (which you should NEVER do) If you only paid a reasonable deposit and the materials and work already completed covers it. you have a very strong hand if after the work not being completed (and you inform them) you pay someone else to complete it.
Much will however depend on the contract you agreed to or any possible genuine reason they may have for not completing the work.
