Carpet Washer / Cleaner

Hello all,
I want to wash my carpets, what should I buy? I googled and checked many brands but I don't know which one is good - to be honest, the prices are a bit high for me but I need asap.
I have a rug doctor portable but find to get a really good clean is to scrub by hand first I use the new pink stuff for whites in a bowl hot water. Then suck up excess water with the rug doctor. Yes I agree they can be expensive if only have one room why not hire one from a local hardware store.
I tried to hire it but unfortunately in my area (Asda for example)said because of covid they have less cleaner etc.
You could hire a Cleaner from most Supermarkets or DIY store (Rug Doctor I think they are called ) . More affordable if it's for a one off clean .
I used to own a Vax carpet cleaner which I would recommend, if you intend to wash your carpets regularly. I don't own one now, since we have downsized and don't have the room
I looked for one a while back and the cheaper ones didn’t seem to be reviewed very well. I didn’t want to spend a fortune so since Ive hired from hss a couple times. I think it cost about £24 from memory. I used it to deep clean carpets, rugs, sofas and mattresses, it’s handy to hire as it’s not something I’d use all the time and I don’t have to think about storage.
Rather than buy new have you considered buying secondhand? I’ve just looked on eBay and there are loads.
I checked marketplace and eBay too - especially on marketplace the second hand ones are really in horrible condition - if I was a seller at least I could clean the machine before putting them online sale. that's why I'm just asking for the best brand recommendation
I own a vax carpet cleaner. Purchased a while back and I think I got a good deal. I use it on the first of each month and very happy with the results.
ulfetc I purchased the Vax rapid power revive carpet washer and it was purchased from John Lewis when it was on offer.
I got the Bissell Pro Heat Pet in the sale last year and find it great. I bought the extra attachments which mean you can do the stairs, furniture or the car too.
