Church Bells Silenced after Complaint from One Person
In the News
''Outrage as village church bells in devon village are silenced for the first time in 110 years after ONE local complained chiming clock was 'detrimental to their mental health''
I wonder if that person was 'woke' . or just woken up by the bells ?
Someone said 'Go and live in a city if you don't like it':
If they did, say in london, would they also try to silence big ben ?
If you live be side a church you should expect to hear bells not just for weddings but practice bells as well or the chime of the clock as you would have known this when you moved there that the church used the bells or the clock chimed, if they we’re going to be detrimental to your health they should have moved into the middle of nowhere so you did not hear them. But then they would probably complain about the noise the birds make LoL
They would have cause for complaint if it was notre dame , now quasi did like to make some noise
I love the sound of church bells.Good to stop what we're doing every so often and give thanks to God.I used to visit a friend in Paddington and the bells used to go on the hour ..splendid to stop every so often and give thanks for a wealth of blessings.I thought about campanology once it's quite a privileged set to be in you can ring bells all over the place .
Does anybody bother to read the FACTS? The church bells have NOT been silenced because of a complaint, they were stopped because of Covid regulations that stopped the bell ringers attending, (soon to restart) Even the CLOCK chimes have not been SILENCED, the quarter hour bell (hardly necessary when most people have other ways of telling the time) has been MUTED.
You are correct D, but a complaint has been made and could result in the clock chimes being silenced
The rest of the comments are just a bit of fun and banter
I had to correct some phrasing in the newspaper article which you may notice is in poor english , eg heath instead of health
Mike wrote: 'The more observant among you will have noticed that the clock is more muted than of late.
'This is due to a complaint being made to Environmental Health at Teignbridge District Council.
'Apparently, someone does not like the clock striking and Environmental Health have threated the church with an abatement order and possible Court action.
'The clock was put in the church in 1910 and to my knowledge this is the only complaint in all that time.
