Clapping, Week 10
Ask a Question
It is week 10 of clapping for carers but have heard it will be the last. Will you continue doing something or the other idea is to do something each year. What are your thoughts?
I’d like to continue the tradition even if it’s just once a month! I feel it’s brought the community and families closer together
Why is it finishing we had over 300 people die yesterday, this virus is not over yet and the nhs are working really hard.
Also I like to do it as its great for everyone to get out and see each other at a safe distance.
No I stopped clapping after the first couple of weeks. It was a wonderful gesture at that time but it has lost something because of it's repetition. Instead, I've donated to ONEMILLIONCLAPS appeal in the hope that the money will do some good.
I think its brought my neighbours a-lot closer to each other! Finally seeing different kinds of people doing something together! I think it should turn into clapping for us making it through this virus and thanking the people that did their bit in the community (along side the frontline heros!)
I stopped after a while. It was a great idea at the start. For me though seeing my neighbours clap and then throw a party and invite their friends it lost it's meaning. I'd rather show my support in other ways now. Going to have a look at what other ideas are out there
I don't really wonder why it's ending, shouldn't it be continued until we have no new Covid-19 cases/deaths?
Not clapped since first week, now it's just a social media fad and for neighbours to show to the community how good of neighbour they are. It's more for themselves now rather than for NHS
SonsOfPitches It really is that. There's one woman who stands there and looks around waiting for people to appear.
SonsOfPitches The trouble is I've been out every bloody week but don't want a Christmas card. I don't want to know all my neighbours.
I've gone out every week but believe you can achieve far more by just saying thank you to keyworkers directly or giving them a wave. I did it when an ambulance came past and got the thumbs up back. This whole clapping thing has become like that ice bucket challenge.
We should have been thanking emergency services before this anyway. The more I think about it, the more I realise it's just another empty and typically American display of "look at me, I'm part of something" as opposed to actual appreciation.
it started out as a nice gesture, but it evolved into something less about the carers and more about showing off with fireworks, lanterns, people on bridges...
I would like to see every key worker be given something personal, like a pamper package with a weekend away. I'm sure this would be appreciated more now. Only when the lockdown is over of course. Give something personal. I'm sure this could be funded by the public and the government with a Media Fundraiser. Just a thought.....!
