Clothing Banks - Overflowing

Ask a Question

Have you noticed if your clothes banks are overflowing with ‘donated’ items? My local recycling centre has one and the amount of clothes and shoes piled high and around is astonishing! I’m sure people have more time to rifle through their old items to throw out, but I’m a bit concerned that some items have been dumped due to ‘contamination’, which is just left out and about

I haven't been out the house since lockdown so I've no idea about our local clothing bins, but they are normally quite full at the best of times anyway so I wouldn't be surprised. Ours aren't at the recycling centre, they are in different places around the town, so you can't stop people from donating items due to safety fears.

They will need boiling! But knowing how it is, people will still rummage and then sell on eBay without washing

I noticed that the clothes bank in Morrison’s cars park has been closed, probably during this period they do not wish for donations and potential spreading of germs. Before they closed it, there was lots of donations overflowing also!

i take it its due to people having a clear out in the spare time

yes I have seen a pile up, and the people who usually collect them are probably self isolating, so the pile up is worse than it usually is. I'm sure some people may be rifling through them in the night

They usually do. I suppose if a lot of people are worried for their future, the6 might just start rummaging to get stuff to sell on eBay and gumtree, etc

Could this not just be because charity shops are closed? (at least I presume they are) so this is the only place to take them now?
