Colin Pitchfork Why Was He Released ?
In the News
Colin Pitchfork was caught by DNA testing in a certain area and he tried to cheat the system by getting someone else to take his test .
He was given a life sentence but with the minimum term before he could be considered for parole .
So 2 months ago he is released and within that time he is recalled back to prison .
Has the time come where you commit murder you never see freedom again ? You never get released.
This man was caught , he was 100% guilty ,no doubt it wasn't a wrongful conviction and I would go as far where some people have reservations of the death penalty . If the death penalty was an option I absolutely have never been convinced overwise that some people who are no longer here would be if the person who did it thought they might be facing the death penalty .
But going back to Colin Pitchfork why was he ever allowed to be released ? Should there be a life sentence for any murderer with no chance of parole .
Just looked him up and this summarizes why he should have stayed locked up: "child-murderer and rapist"
He's lucky U.K. doesn't have death penalty.
So agree PhilipMarc . I do think it would be a deterrent if it was an option and if the killer is prepared to kill then they must now the possibility it might end in there death if they take a life.
The system needs a complete shake up. Time & time again the parole boards make these decisions to release offenders. Not just Colin but many others have been released & many of them have gone on to offend again. It's disgusting, not sure I would support a death penalty but life should mean LIFE.
When a person has proven themselves to be as dangerous to the public & their crimes are as despicable as this guys, the offender(s) should NEVER even be considered for release imo, I don't care how much they say they've 'changed'.
So so true Glitterandgold and god forbid if it results in something terrible once they do get released . I always think of the killers of James Bulger as the perfect reason why they should never be released if they take a life no matter what age they are .
The justice system is a joke life should be life I'd bring back the death penalty some of these people are oxygen thefts
You know, I asked a cop about self defense and he said: "It can get messy."
Pathetic that even when a person defends him/herself can get in trouble. Unbelievable.
U.K. has been through...
I think there is a huge gap between the establishment and the general population when it comes to criminal justice and the establishment seems to think the general population have it wrong who typically believe in harsher sentences. I personally struggle with financial crimes often having longer sentences than violent crimes or rape on many occasions. Also driving that kills people often gets treated very lightly which I could understand if it was a genuine mistake and unfortunate circumstances but often the driver has been reckless, speeding, using a phone, drinking etc and to me that is pretty much manslaughter and a much worse crime than many others that get longer sentences.
It's also horrible to say it but much of these early releases are caused by limited resources and needing to get people out of prisons that cost a huge amount of money. It is something like £40-80k a year to keep a prisoner in prison as you can imagine over 10s of years this runs into millions. We have limited financial resources.
Also psychiatric assessment of prisoners is almost totally useless with a huge failure rate when they are released. What is the point of this with such a failure rate.
Because our justice system is a joke and life sentence usually is nowhere near what life sentence should be.
