I sincerely hope it isn't considered "Trolling" as any other corrections to your "News Items" seem to be. But Jimmy Tarbuck isn't dead. (unless he's died in the last few hours) He'll probably be on TV later with his obituary to Tom, as he normally is when anyone else dies.
Thank you D, i have corrected the post with the person i meant to put
There are more greats , but the liverpool 'ratpack' are my favourites
telmel The only one I worked with and thought had a "sharp wit" was George Roper - Ken Dodd should have been known as "The Thief of Bad Gags" (although he did steal some good gags too - He stole one I wrote for someone else).
Can't help but wonder who will be around to deliver the TV obituary when Tarby does cast off this mortal coil. (He must have made a tidy amount from the TV appearance fees).
davidstockport I liked george roper too D
Tarbys in a bad way i believe, he was diagnosed with prostrate cancer 2 years ago
I wish him well
I just read the news and was sad to here it but overall seems he had a good life. Entertained millions and will be missed.
I have a great respect for anyone involved in comedy E
They enrich peoples lives with laughter, it is a well known tonic for health and longevity
Comedians are artists in their own right and in my opinion the older comedians were picassos
They didnt need to cuss to get a cheap laugh, but used their skills
Saying that, I think one of the most memorable jokes i remember that still makes me chuckle now was the german @ockker sketch by stan boardman
Tv wont show this now because the joke was too near the knuckle
But film directors still managed to bring a film out called 'meet the "ockers' with ben stiller and robert de niro , a very funny film which also was near the knuckle regarding the title
But that never got censored by the politically correct brigade fortunately
I still like some of the up to date comedians , i enjoy watching live at the appolo for example you get some very funny acts on there
telmel I have seen both, Stan Boardman was on the Des O’Conner show when I saw that. As for the film very funny.
telmel I doubt LD will object to a Joke (Told on prime time television). Anyway I'll chance it:
telmel I don't like unnecessary bad language - but fail to see how anyone (except JurrMans) could be seriously offended by that.
davidstockport I agree D, i think des o'connor helps to enhance the atmosphere with his look of half disbelief and half restrained laughter
I suppose it could have been worse for him, he could have had bernard manning on as his guest
telmel I think the video following that one is Bernard Manning with Des. I knew Bernard from about 1962 but grew to dislike him because his racist (supposed humour) and language went outside my acceptable bounds.
davidstockport I thought the same about him D, i saw him as very funny in the beginning but came to realise the same , which was a shame , he was one of a kind
I saw a documentary about him once and how he loved to lounge about at home in his underpants
telmel Manning in his undies worse than short shorts or Moi in my big girl pants lol.
There is an article in the news about jimmy carr today ,i like his humour also, a bit tongue in cheek about how worried he is about being fired for past jokes, i wont post the link as it will disappear so i copied a bit of the article instead
Jimmy Carr says its likely his comedy career will be ended for a joke he has already told.
Jimmy Carr believes he has probably already told the "unacceptable" joke that will force him into comedy retirement — but he doesn't know which one it is.
The 48-year-old comedian told the Daily Star that "the joke that ends my career" is definitely out there and there's nothing he can do about it.
"I’ve already told it. It’s on YouTube somewhere waiting, it’s like a landmine," he said.
Carr added: "We don’t know which one it is. We can’t take it down because we don’t know.
"At some point one of my jokes will become so unacceptable. At the moment it’s fine, but at some stage someone will look back and go: ‘He said what? It’s over’."
A sad loss indeed as many good comedians as musicians and actors gone to the great theatre in the sky.Peter Kay is still around though thank God.
I love Peter Kay M, I really enjoyed car share and some of his older programmes too
He is a top class down to earth entertainer
