Comments Hijacked
Help
Who and why are people managing to use my name to post comments I haven't wrote, I have noticed it a few times today and have had to spend time correcting them. I am really annoyed at this! If I wanted to post a comment saying I bow down to someone random I don't even know then I would do it myself (or not as the case is) How can I secure my account as this is really worrying to think that people have the ability to Hijack our accounts and post comments on our behalf
Exactly, I don't know now whose comments are real and who wrote them, no idea if it's a bot that you could be sitting relying to as you don't know if the real person wrote it or not I don't recall giving permission for this and if I did it was hidden in the small print xx
On LD or somewhere else (Facebook)?
Generally no one has access to someone else's account so the issue could be that you leave a device unlocked and then some fella posts comments.
Hi Nikki2017
I think this may be a result of our "Thanks" button on competitions?
If you hit "Thanks" it'll post a auto-generated thank you message to the original poster. There's a fair few messages in there (including some rather oddball ones ).
We're always open to feedback if you think the "Thanks" button should be restricted to just commenting "Thank you".
And you can still manually type thanks
The auto-generated comments do come across as quite disingenuous compared to genuine comments.
Competitions' posts actually have a button "Thanks"? First I've heard of it and I agree with Painkiller, if people press "Thank you" then it should be left at that rather than auto-post it as a comment.
It's kind of hard to tell on LD if people really are thankful or not since that's the majority of the comments without any other context.
Rockman yes it's comments on latest deals like this one I really do not like that feature, how do u know when your replying to some OK new comment that your replying to the person who posted or the bot that interrupted
It should not be allowed to post comments on our behalf! Surely with all this data protection we should have had to agree to our account getting used to post comments we know nothing about, it doesn't look like I'm the only person who didn't know that when you innocently press thanks to thank someone it posts a really daft message like this one saying "I bow down to.your coming excellence" I bow to down to no one lol, will not be us I ng this feature till it gets sorted
down to your comping
As a poster who is receiving some of these strange comments, I find some of them quite odd. I would rather that the comments were more 'genuine' rather than the gushing comments that are appearing with increasing regularity. To me they seem false and it doesn't make me feel appreciated. I would rather have a simple thanks/thank you.
ive had some really strange comments on me posts today ... i thought some one was drunk at one point coz they that weird me being new to all these groups i didnt know they could have a bot comment for them .. me being thick answered um lmfao oops
Thank you everyone for your feedback. On Competitions (and only competitions), there is a “Thanks” button that if you press, it automatically comments a positive message on the competition post.
This feature was created by request from many Comp’ers, because on other Comp’ing websites there is something similar, and if you enter a hundred a day it’s good to have a quick way to say thank you to the original poster.
The “Thanks” button has been around for several months, and is regularly used. When it was first created, there were about 10 messages it would randomly write. For example,
- Thank you
- Thanks
- Entered, thank you
- Much appreciated
Last week, we thought it would be nice to introduce new comments to add a bit of fun. For example,
- Brilliant!
- You are the best, thank you.
There were also some longer, “wildcard” comments which we thought would make fellow comp’ers laugh.
And while we have received much positive feedback about the new messages, we will of course now review them and from this feedback, tone back those which are especially long and over-doing it.
The “Thanks” button will continue to exist, and will continue to write a comment, so please, if you don’t want an auto-comment of thanks to be written, don’t press the button.
It’ll take a little time to remove the messages so thank you for your patience and again for your feedback. We do our best to get it right, but can sometimes get a bit excited and go too far.
Hey, as a final update to this, the new “Thanks” button changes have been reverted back.
Again, if you press a “Thanks” button on a competition (and only competitions), a comment will automatically be posted under your name, saying a positive message of gratitude. For example, ”Thank you”.
We have removed the longer, more excitable messages.
Thank you again for your feedback and I hope you continue to enjoy Latest Deals.
I like the unusual ones , shame.
I guess there are very few people nowadays who like to think outside the box.
Good old sheeple Britain - try nothing new , just keep the status quo and say nowt and take it up the bum and say "thank you" eh!
Are the long-winded fake comments back? It would be nice if you distinguished the fake comments generated by the thanks button from genuine comments that people have taken the time to type.
I agree! When your responding you don't know if your talking to a bot or if it's a real person who has commented There should absolutely have something to distinguish them from the real ones. I just dont use it at all now
Nikki2017 Painkiller no, the "Thanks" button on the competitions page has been reverted back to how it was. No further changes have been made.
i found them hysterical when i first joined i was answering with now calm down its not that good .. or oh thanks dont get to excited x n i actually thought it was the person x i can understand why people think it freaky but its just a bit of fun ... maybe add it to the how to use video tom n explain or like u say just get rid x think a few of us who think iits funny must have a warped SOH
