Companies Putting up Prices mid Contact. Should It Be Allowed?

Ask a Question

Back in the day, when you signed up to a contract for a certain amount of time for a certain cost, that's what you would pay.

Now a lot of companies (broadband, mobiles, TV providers) put the prices up when you're still in contract.

It's in the T&C's, I know, but should it be allowed?

Sky put but my bill within 6 weeks of an 18 month deal and that really annoyed me.

Ann1984 Ann I wouldn't recommend TalkTalk to my worst enemy, they make promises of free things at start of contract then start to charge for them or withdraw them. I started a two year contract fixed at £25 a month for length of contract if I'd paid for what they promised me free for length of contract - I'd have been paying over £40. They wouldn't let me leave the contract unless I took a new one out with them. (which I wouldn't do)

That was the third time they'd ripped me off - the previous two times I'd won.

I switched to Vodafone and also had problems getting the £75 Amazon voucher for switching to them - but I've got it now,

Ann1984 So far I'm reasonably happy with Vodafone, good speed etc. (over 50mbps) costing £22.99 a month. I realise price will probably increase mid-contract in line with inflation, but TalkTalk's guarantee of no price increase is a joke - they increase the price as I previously mentioned.

Ann1984 I think ofcom have given up on trying to keep TalkTalk to honour their obligations - I was actually told be one of TalkTalk's mouthpieces that it would cost more to sue them than it was worth.

Even fines amounting to over half a million don't stop them, got to remember that the head of TalkTalk (Charles Dunstone) employed a convicted fraudster (Ernest Saunders AKA Deadly Earnest) for business advice.

Always worth giving them a ring to renegotiate even when in contract ,worked for me with Plusnet and I always haggle my SKY deals .

That's the main reason for not having all your eggs in one basket . I have SKY for tele , Vodafone for mobile and Plusnet for Broadband , BT Sport and phone . That way I can threaten them with leaving and not lose everything at once .

Not been cut off yet after giving notice to leave but they did leave it late on a few occasions to offer me a better deal !
