How Many of You Cook from Scratch?

Other

I always did when part of a family but now I live alone and just can't be bothered most of the time. I often invite friends and family for a meal because I then make the effort to make something fresh and tasty.

Hi lynibis i do all the time I love cooking. If you do it your self you know what's going in to your food. I am looking to by a bread maker because I want to start to do my own bread. And I will soon be growing my own fruit and veg. It will be so much better for you and a lot more tasty. I make soups stews, roast dinners, cottage pie, steak and onion pie, chicken and bacon pie. And I all so make my own cakes, bun's . And pudding. And I all so like try other things to make. 🍓🍅🍞

I would love to make my own bread but I know I would be greedy and unable to stop eating it even though I have to ration the carbs!

I do pretty much everyday as I enjoy it. When I can't be bother I don't. I love cooking Asian food especially, the smell of lemongrass/ginger/chilli/garlic is the best smell!!

I love making cupcakes but again not much occasion to make them these days. I do make the odd banana cake for my granddaughter though.

I much prefer to cook and bake from scratch because it's far more personal and you control what ingredients go into it. In fact, just the other day I made a chocolate birthday cake for my mother. Both the sponge and the icing were done from scratch.

Sounds yum, I love chocolate cake but try not to eat too much sweet stuff. I tend to have a cook up if I have a spare Sunday and will make loads of individual lasagnes, shepherds pie etc. But once I have used them I am back to lazy meals like omelettes!

Lynibis I love homemade shepherds pie and I make it regularly.

As for the cake, I have used Caster Sugar with Stevia (a good natural sweetener) as a way to cut down on the calories, whilst keeping the taste exactly the same.

I love to cook from scratch and I've been told I'm a borderline 'feeder' - not true but I enjoy the reactions to a new dish or spices. Considering I could barely boil a kettle when I got married I think I've come a long way. I love the fact that preparing a meal for friends or family encourages conversation so you are very wise to keep up with the regular friends' invites. I also love the science of foods - raw onions and honey are useful as an effective antiseptic poultice and there is nothing quite like a chicken soup to soothe a bad cold etc. Thank goodness I wasn't born in the period you love to investigate, Lynibis, or it could've meant very hot toes or a good dunking. 😂

Another thing we have in common. No one comes here without being offered food and drink lol. My boss came in for a cuppa last week as we were between jobs and no time for him to go home so was treated to a cream tea!

Your natural antiseptic are often used in Outlander as I am sure you know. Our ancestors seemed to have a good knowledge of what nature could offer to aid disease and recovery.

Lynibis Haha! The first thing anyone who comes to our house is asked 'have you been fed and watered?'so I would be the same in the Boss situation. I am losing faith in the effectiveness of some of our antibiotics so I favour the naturals - Echinacea to fend off colds, Arnica to bring out a bruise, Aloe Vera for sunburn and a multitude of other purposes and Basil, Ginger and Cammomile. All this and I'm not even an aged hippy or a secret tree hugger.....😂

You could buy chicken nuggets for the kids or you could panko breadcrumb chicken breast yourself. I like to make my own as they are so tasty!

Yes, I often buy a load of ingredients with the intention of making something but life takes over. I freeze where possible and try not to waste but sometimes it is unavoidable.

Pretty much do everything from scratch (except filo pastry .. too fiddly), but am still partial to a hot pasty and slice of cake from my local shop when pushed for time!

I don't do it as often now as my time is taken up by my son, so my husband tends to do the cooking and he does it from scratch. He is a brilliant cook. I taught him how to make some dishes and his uncle taught him too. Once I have more time then I will start again.
