Costa Coffe Cappucino Has 4 times the Amount of Caffeine as a Redbull Who Knew ?

Ask a Question

A high street coffee had four times the amount of caffeine compared to a can of Red Bull, tests have revealed. Consumer group Which? found a medium cappuccino at Costa contained 325mg of caffeine. By comparison, a 250ml can of Red Bull has 80mg.

I never realised that and though I like , and need , a coffee in the morning that more caffeine than I bargained on

Is there a full list? I'd be interested to know how much caffine is in the medium mokka there. I'm suppost to avoid caffine so don't want to drink too much

I am not keen on strong coffee so if I have one in a coffee shop (which is very rare) I always ask for one shot as they usually make them with two

Lynibis I like strong coffee but it doesn't like me. I get too jittery if drink more than 2 normal cups a day. Few months ago I had three strong coffee and couldn't get out of parking space, it usually wouldn't bother me we had to go for walk wait for caffeine to wear off, then too tired to walk back lol

Imnotcheap Oh dear, that doesn't sound good. Some people don't seem to be affected by things as much as others. I can drink coffee very near to bedtime and it doesn't stop me sleeping, though I guess if I had more than one and it was strong it would.

Lynibis I actually find coffee seems to help me sleep, they do say that a clear conscience helps one sleep.

davidstockport I must have a clear conscience then as last night I put my light out at 10pm I remember coming to at some stage but next thing I knew it was 8am. I was quite annoyed at sleeping for 10 hours at it gave me a late start to my day!

Lynibis That's weird less than five minutes ago I was talking to my sister on the phone, and we were talking about how confusing the different ways of saying the time was. I came to your posting to say that 8 in the morning was the middle of the night for me, and to tell how on one day last week I had woken earliesh (about 7.00 AM) had breakfast and a coffee, lay down and fell asleep again. When I woke it was 9.00 but still dark, I was a little confused until I realised it was 9.00 in the evening and I'd slept round the clock.😀

I must cut back on the coffee. Those AMs and PMs do confuse us as we get older😀😀(glad it's just not me).

davidstockport on dear just realised I had put 8pm but I guess you knew I meant 8am as I said I slept 10 hours (will edit it now). They say as we get older we need less sleep, usually I am fine with 7 hours.

Lynibis Of course I knew what you meant (I hadn't noticed until I came back to reply after phone call)- but the way I sleep sometimes it could have been 22 hours.😀

Last year my health centre offered me an appointment (by text) at 16:30pm I had to phone through to clarify and explain to them there was no such time. (well if you took it literally it would be 4.30am the following morning. That really is the middle of the night😀).

Hmm don't feel nearly as bad now about my daily can of red bull habit.

I don't drink coffee, but do like a mid morning red bull to help me push through the day.

I read that article in a newspaper. I only drink Nestle instant coffee occasionally so it doesn't affect me.

I'm quite shocked it contains more caffeine than red bull. I bet a lot of people don't realise they're consuming so much caffeine from a coffee.

I rarely drink coffee. I will occasionally have a cup in the house. If out at a coffee shop, again very rare, I will have a latte or a mocha. I always noticed that after the Costa latte I felt jittery.

I’m not a coffee drinker, but I know whenever I walk past a coffee shop I get that waft of the coffee aroma…and the smell alone is a caffeine hit!

No decaff option at Costa as far as I remember. I love Costa coffee though but only have it occasionally. I drink far more coffee at wetherspoons because of the free refills. I had a decaff mocha, decaff capuchinno and finished with a hot chocolate. Not bad for about a £. Probably would have cost me about £13 in Costa for their non-decaff versions although would have been far nicer. The Lavazza coffee at Wetherspoons is ok but Lavazza is poor compared to Costa in my opinion but still not complaining at the price. I wouldn't be surprised if Wetherspoons fill the Lavazza machines with more generic coffee beans rather than Lavazza at times.

I drink white tea for its health benefits and just have the occasional cup of coffee, mainly latte ,even though i have about 4 different coffee machines including a professional krupps that i won from the daily express a few years ago

You always read there is more caffeine in coffee than tea, but that is untrue, it depend on how the coffee is made , how large the portion and the bean etc

There is actually more caffeine in tea leaves than coffee beans

I pulled this from the article below

Tea has more caffeine in it per mg. See, tea leaves have around 3.5% caffeine in them whereas unbrewed coffee beans have only around 1.1-2.2% caffeine. So, technically there is more caffeine in tea than coffee per mg but it’s all in how you brew up as to how much caffeine you actually drink in your cuppa joe
