COVID Guidance is Now Law What Should the Punishment Be for Flouting It?
In the News
Ok ,there are fines from £100 - £10000 available for the flouters . How many of the low life guilty of minor offences ever pay . Never have any money to pay a fine but enough to buy drink and /or drugs .
Many of the numbskulls believe they are "entitled" to flout the law (they of course know better !
My idea :
Rather like a Speed awareness course is available in the case of speeding offences (to avoid points on your licence) , perhaps we could introduce Covid awareness courses to reduce any fine received ?
It is plain that many people (including many members on these chat pages ) do not understand the virulence of this virus (the clue is in the name !) . How it can be passed on before you even know you have it and so on exponentially .
Maybe targeted education would help debunk the myths widely accepted by a supposedly educated but gullible section of our society who get their "information " from so called "influencers" on Social media rather than mainstream news . Just a thought .
I’m convinced those who will break the rules do not know anyone suffering the virus let alone anyone who’s died.
That was my thoughts . A course to educate those who broke the law into the results of their actions with a few case histories . Lets face it to date we have had hundreds of thousands of well publicised Covidiots and just a few hundred fines .
I've carried on a near normal life obeying the guidance, treating everyone (including myself) as potentially infected . Played golf ,shopped , been down the Pub as always - just kept a little distance , worn a mask when shopping - No hardship we'll have to get used to it . Its the new normal at least till next summer .
In Indonesia they made people caught not wearing masks bury the covid19 dead. Radical, but I'd bet they had their maks on afterwards!
(not saying we should do that here, just showing an extreme way implemented in another country)
Sounds a bit harsh but if it works maybe we should adopt that approach. Human right groups will have a field day.
First of all they should be fined, heavily, and if they don't pay the fine, their wages/benefits should be garnished.
And then they should have their picture taken and put on a 'Roll of Shame' website where people could put in the area that they live in and then a list of all the law breaking clowns would come up.
I trust we have done what we can in our own way to help. What matters most to me is my mental health
Everyone has an opinion no matter how valid.
I trust that we all have been doing what we can to help our loved ones. I trust that. I will not point fingers.
I appreciate what you all have said. Maybe punishment is the one way we all seem to think works, it doesn't however work for everybody and every variation for the reasons people don't wear masks at a certain point in time
Mainstream news is also influenced.
If you mean government guidance then they too haven't been thorough enough in my opinion
Penalties for not wearing a mask or gathering in groups of more than six will increase to £200 on the first offence. Cant you just say your exempt to avoid the fine?
TheChimp Yeah but people can just claim anxiety as thats on the list for exemption and most of the public are anxious at the moment
Getsome TBH I don't think the odd flouter of the face covering rule will make much difference to the big picture . Its when it becomes "uncool" to wear one and "clever" not to wear one that the problem arises .
I don't like wearing a mask ( I suspect few of us do ) but its not a problem to wear one for a few minutes whilst doing the shopping .
Remember more and more workers (not just in the NHS) will have to wear one for the majority of their shift .
Golfforall Point im on about is that you can dish out fines as much as they want but you can just claim exemption for a variety reason so the fines will become ineffective
TheChimp Really? This took from gov website.
"Those who have an age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering should not be routinely asked to give any written evidence of this, this includes exemption cards. No person needs to seek advice or request a letter from a medical professional about their reason for not wearing a face covering"
Getsome Yes the mask wearing is going to be difficult to enforce 100% , its where the "Engage" and "Explain " part of the 4 e's will come into play.
I'm really thinking about more serious breaches - gatherings of more than 6 , House parties of more than 6 etc . Particularly when done on a regular basis .
I'm sure I'll sometimes forget to put a mask on when going to the Gents in the Pub (until I get used to the new normal ) . But I wouldn't get 2 yards before being reminded by good natured abuse from other drinkers .
Golfforall The masks cant be enforced so more people will just stop wearing them knowing the fines can just be erased. I wouldn't be at a pub during a pandemic
TheChimp Its a joke but they know that the doctors would be overwhelmed with people trying to get exemption certificates.
Should be made do community service in hospitals might open there eyes as to what is really going on and how hard it is on the front line.
I like that idea , maybe in care homes too . Not in close contact obviously but close enough to see the results of their thoughtless , selfish actions .
