Covid Rules - School - Help Please
Ask a Question
I know everyone is sick of Covid now so please forgive me but oldest son (11) has had 2 positive lateral flow tests today. He was tested Wednesday, Saturday & yesterday which were all negative (he had slight cough and headache) we kept him off school today with him not feeling 100% and he's tested positive today. Got him booked in for a PCR test in the morning...but our middle child (6) has tested negative today (no symptoms). I've been reading if we are all supposed to isolate but apparently my 6 year old still has to go to school...is this correct? Another one I read said he has to isolate. I'm all lost with these rules! Surely if my oldest has tested positive then we all have to isolate??
It’s true your child has to attend school unless showing symptoms. But you as a parent have your own say because no fines being issued.
Thank you Ann1984 ...I honestly don't understand sending him to school. It's madness!!! I really don't want to send him as I don't think it's fair on others. Not only that, my oldest had mild cough & headache since Saturday afternoon and only tested positive today, so what's to say my 6 year old is showing no symptoms but is a carrier...gosh...my head is pickled
Do parents have to isolate then? Thanks again Ann.
PinkElephant26 only parents adults that’s not double jabbed unless your showing symptoms. It’s all head ache they keep changing the rules.
Ann1984 OK...we're not double jabbed so we're to isolate then. How on earth am I supposed to take my son to school if I have to isolate?? Which bright spark made those rules up!?
PinkElephant26 you could test him tomorrow and see what the test says. someone I know had symptoms, he had been a to an event and felt awful the next day so he stayed home. He done a test it came up negative. But he still Isolated, he even tested the following day in the morning and the test was still negative. He felt really poorly so he took another test later on in the day and that came up as positive.
Also I think it can take 48hours or more to show symptoms or get a positive reading. I think you should do what you thinks best, if you want to keep him home then I think you should!
I hope your son doesn’t get it or you and your partner. I hope your son has a fast recovery. Stay safe! Xx
Thank you LeanneWard were currently waiting for results from a PCR test he had this morning, but in all honesty I think it's positive. The rest of us are testing negative at the moment but we're continuing to do them daily.
Thats crazy surely anyone in contact should isolate bo Matter the age due to spread. There are so many small rules like this that need clarification.
My friend had this recently when her eldest had it. Her husband could still go to work as he was double vaccinated and not showing symptoms and her youngest could go to school as she wasn't showing symptoms but she had to isolate with the eldest as she wasn't double vaccinated.
I would agree that if your eldest has tested positive then you should all isolate and get tested. If either you or your partner haven't been double vaccinated then you will have to isolate.
Hope your eldest is alright and has a speedy recovery and that it isn't passed on to the rest of the family.
Thank you MrsCraig, he's OK - coughing but still eating which is a good sign! Spoke to primary school this morning and she said he should be in BUT he vomited during the night so she said it could be symptoms - he's tested negative again today. I did say I wouldn't be sending him in regardless and she said it would be put down as unauthorised absence.
My household has had 3 positive covid cases. I have been out at work, as I’m double jabbed, and before my oldest son tested positive, he was at school too. Children under 18 yrs6mth don’t have to isolate, neither do adults if they are double jabbed…unless they test positive. The rest of the household should get PCR tested. I just did lateral flow tests each day before work. It seems strange, because it is an about face from what we did before.
KatieBlue My brother was here Sunday and when test & trace rang me I told them he was here. He was sent home from work to isolate, hes had both jabs but 2nd was 12 days ago so he's been told to isolate...Needless to say I was getting some stick off him today...he's only just returned to the office full time
I am so far incrediBly lucky, in that I am sleeping in a bed with a positive covid case (my husband!) and I haven’t caught it yet. Jabs must be doing something right!
I'd message school to explain as they all seem to have their own interpretation on current nonsense rules
Imnotcheap I spoke to the school yesterday and told me that he has to be in school (although he was sick Monday night) but explained that he'd been sick so the usual 48hours off apply but she said he needs to come back Thursday- I've refused and she said it will be logged as unauthorised absence and a fine could follow...told her that's fine!
The rest of us are testing twice daily and are negative (touch wood).
It's mental that he is to go to school when he's living with someone covid positive yet my 'double jabbed' brother who doesn't live here now has to isolate from work (only just gone back to office this week) because he was at my house on Sunday. He had his 2nd jab 12 days ago it's all backwards!
My friends son did a test and pierced through to his brain, he has brain fluid behind eyes he can't see and has been in hospital for months, we were always told not to stick things up our noses!
jwhitaker537 ...gosh that's awful! Hope your friends son has a full recovery! I had a couple of tests done by different nurses when I was pregnant and I did feel like it was touching my brain she went that far! It's not nice to do, I prefer doing my own tests.
