It's been reported that the Government is considering offering food vouchers, free taxi rides and shopping vouchers to young people as an incentive for young people to get the covid vaccines. Your thoughts please?.
I will love to be considered a young person then I have done mine yet anyway
My thoughts are that it is a shame that ANYONE needs incentives to do something for the common good. If they are willing to have the jab for a few freebies then they have no real reason for not having it in the first place.
I totally agree with you. This was going on in America and like you say if you will do it for an incentive then you are willing to have it.
People have different opinions on this vaccine I've turned it down but I'm not getting offended free stuff lol think its a joke if someone wants the jab they will have it
I think it would be more appropriate to offer psychiatric treatment to those who (unless they have a good reason) can have, but won't have, the vaccine.

I haven't done mine because I don't like NHS generally their staff is always too rude to tolerate, i buy my medicines from herbs shops if I need one.
It's obvious that the after my comment went unnoticed, Perhaps I should have said; if people who are opposed to the jab, have the jab because they've been given an incentive, they're the ones who need psychiatric treatment.
WindowShopper mine was done by a very lovely vicar, nothing to do with NHS but a volunteer giving up his time to ensure that those who do want to prevent the spread of Covid, could have it quickly and efficiently.
Aztec Of course people have the right to decide for themselves, just as those who have had the jab have the right to choose who they associate with. and establishments that don't want them on their premises or even employers who don't want them in their employment have the right to decide.
When the Q codes that show the holder has been jabbed become more commonplace, I can see the day when those who haven't been jabbed will find it very difficult to be regarded as acceptable by the vast majority of those who have been jabbed, when that day arrives I will be choosing to only use places that only allow access to the jabbed (or exempt) - and many others will too.
Lynibis I volunteered to give the jabs - but they told me that being able to score 180s at darts wasn't sufficient qualification.

There are few establishments that would decide such a ruling off their own backs as they want the business and not the hassle, Employers beware as this Sky News story outlines .

Whilst you have the freedom to choose, where you go and who you mix with , others have the freedom to choose whether or not they wish to have the vaccine . I do however wonder if you needed some form of emergency assistance ( and hopefully you won't) , whether you would be checking the people attending you had been vacated before accepting assistance from them .
Also lets not get too carried away with Covid, as in June Covid was only the 26th leading cause of death in England and made up fewer than 1% of all fatalities, official data shows.
Leannexxx It only divides those who won't accept scientific and medical advice from those who will. It's not only "this country" many countries choose to not allow the unjabbed to enter.
davidstockport lol. The first jab was administered by a lovely younger man, he probably was part of the NHS, but both times they were absolutely lovely, as were all the volunteers. Those who did the paperwork, showed you where to go etc.
I don't understand the reticence to have the jab. Nothing live is injected into you and it is more than any government dare do if it hadn't been vigorously tested. They would be sued from here to kingdom come. Methinks too many folk have watched those plague disaster movies and think they are true. I just hope none of those able, but unwilling, are not the cause of death or long covid in someone they love.
I bet they happily got a jab pre covid if a country they wanted to visit demanded it.
When this thing mutates again it will be down to them as it will happen in the non jabbed community.
Aztec your argument doesn't really hold water. I can't help thinking of those forced to work alongside the anti vaxers, they have no choice do they, having been selfless and had the jab to protect themselves, their families and total strangers.
I respect your right to your opinion but my opinion happens to be opposite and sometimes one side of an argument has far more ethical, moral and physical 'right' to it than the other.
Aztec What makes you think there are establishments that will decide to not allow the unjabbed in? Those that don't allow access will increase their business when those of us who don't want to mix with people who aren't doing their best to beat the virus choose them over those that endanger their other customers or staff. Ask yourself which would you choose to work in or patronise; a place that put you under extra risk of contacting the virus or one that lessened the risk?
Incidentally the Q codes are already available, on paper for those who don't have a suitable phone, it's too early yet for them to be much use (my own which expires in a few days - hasn't been used).
Aztec It had dropped to 24th in June , from 1st not too long ago. I'm not sure where getting run over whilst crossing the road is on the list, but it would soar if people stopped looking both ways before crossing.
Vaccinations are the main reason the death rate fell, but Covid will never be eliminated until everyone plays their part in the fight against it.
Lynibis Be honest Lynibis your main reason you had the Vaccine was to protect yourself , same as I did, and the same as so many others. Don't try to make out you were doing it for others you had the choice, so now also respect other people right to chose . If you work with others who have not been vaccinated they are far more at risk from you than you are from them .
Aztec isn't it strange how people resort to being rude or narky when someone points out something they personally don't agree with but can find no fault with. Of course I wanted to protect myself but it is a two way street. Something many people do not travel down these days, it is one way all the way.

I will remember not to reply to your topics or comments in future as you have been rude to me previously. I find it strange how folk can take a dislike to someone they have never met based on a couple of inoffensive remarks. I will trouble you no further.
If there was a worldwide epidemic people would be queuing up to have it, not be invited or bribed
My final comment has to be this. It is a good thing that more people have been sensible and had the jab because if it was 80/20% the other way round we would be up s**t creek without a paddle. A big thank you to all those who have had it, especially the selfless youngsters who didn't need incentives.
Lynibis I feel as tho of late I agree with practically every comment you make! I couldn't put it any differently really....and especially regarding the 'selfless' comment. What happened to doing the right thing and thinking of others .... and most particularly those who are unable to have it for whatever reason!?
BORDERJOE We are obviously like minded, which isn't so strange really. I find your comments measured and fair. Most folk take a viewpoint one side or the other in a discussion and I think there are far more people who agree with jabs than don't. I find it is only in later life that you think of things from the viewpoint of your own mortality and also, despite what youngsters think, older people do have a lifetime of experience to draw on and are not led so much by attitude and rebelliousness. And before anyone else points out that not all old folk are wise and caring......yes you are right. I am just saying olduns have lived a lot more life and the sensible ones have gained from it.
Personally I think businesses should be able to insist that you need to prove you have been vaccinated as it gives reassurance to the vast majority of people who will have been vaccinated. If you decide not to have the jab then fine, you can choose to go to another business instead. There should be some sort of system where people who cant have the vaccine for health reasons are not discriminated against though.
My wife and I are fully vaccinated, as as her mother is 75 years old and at great risk. We cook and clean at her Granny flat regularly. So feel we have a duty to protect her, as she produced such an angel of a daughter

I can also see the point of some people seeing their human rights being taken away, by requiring vaccine passports and some employers demanding workers are jabbed etc.
My son is a 17yo and has told us he will the take the vaccine if offered to him. He says he has nothing to lose really. If the the jab is dangerous to him, then the lives of his family are equally at the same risk.

It is only since so many have had the jab that they have been able to collate the data and see which of the many jabs performs best. This happens with any new drugs.
It has now been found that a 3rd booster is required and whilst that is entirely your decision, it will negate the protection of the first two if you refuse the third now.
It doesn't matter which you have but I would prefer to have the one deemed most effective. It's a bit like drugs like paracetamol, Nurofen etc being made by different pharmacist essentially the same.
I used to work as a Secretary for a big pharmaceutical company and was very much involved in collating the info from clinical drug trials around the world so I have a little knowledge in this field.
I donβt think thing they should be give anything for an incentive and just told to get it done and stop being so silly x
This has started in NI. There are 500 free tickets to a concert (on Sunday) available for young people who get their vaccine today at a certain vaccine centre.
During the hot weather, you could also get your jab and a poke (free ice cream)
I hope they have something in place to stop the tickets being given or sold on to those who haven't been jabbed.

If it encourages apathetic people, who have no particular argument against the vaccination to take it, all well and good. Whatever it takes to get the rest of the population vaccinated.
I had mine in December, but if uber eats would like to send me a voucher for being a good egg they're more than welcome 
I donβt think bribes will work. Wait for them to want to travel or do something that requires proof of vaccination and theyβll rush for their jabs.
