£99 Glitch - Currys Dell Laptop Cancellation

Ask a Question

I just received a cancellation email today for the £99 dell laptop trending on here the other day.

It’s a shame but I suppose we all know it can happen with these ‘glitches’ 😔

Did anyone get lucky and manage to get one?

Sadly posting such items will always lead to many being disappointed , some members heartbroken . This "deal" was all over social media and other deals sites on Friday , but was taken down quickly . Sadly it was allowed to remain on Latest Deals . I reported it , but told my report was incorrect !

Misprices (Glitches) ,whatever you want to call them are never honoured ! Certainly not once the "Feeding Frenzy " has started .

Top Tip - If you spot a misprice yourself buy it , wait till it's delivered then post it if you must . A few may get through before the company notices - several hundred/ thousand orders will not !!!

And members , treat it like a game you fully expect to lose . I found some of the comments heartbreaking - members believing they could buy nice presents they could not otherwise afford .

Golfforall I’d disagree that glitches are never honoured. I’ve received a decent number with no issue. When people know it’s a glitch we know it’s a risk we take, sadly some people that are maybe new to things may just think it’s an amazing deal and they’ll be the ones who unfortunately get their hopes up too high.

I've had some good glitches. Didn't have the money to try for that one though

I've got a few misprices. The Maxxis bicycles tyres that are normally £40 I managed to get a few at £3.25 recently at Amazon. I'm not a fan of Currys at all and find their customer service very poor and can't imagine them caring about customers reactions. Sometimes firms will give a discount voucher or small gift card when they cancel misprice orders but can't imagine Currys ever doing that.

I seem to remember getting a lot of misprices at Tesco Direct so wasn't surprised when they closed it. Most of the pricing was poor on that site apart from misprices.

My point is - Glitches are common on Amazon marketplace - Usually when a voucher brings a price down to little or zero . Deliberate or an oversight ? I'm sure we have all read about the "brushing " scam where items are sent for little or no cost just to build a sales record . So many are probably deliberate ?

Once a genuine misprice on a large retailer's site is shared on social media and every deals site (millions of people!) as this one was , then there is no way the deal will be honoured 🙄 which I'm sure most intelligent folks know ?

To repeat my advice 😀 . If you find a misprice yourself (not through social media or a deals site ) then wait till you have received it before sharing .

Guaranteed if a genuine misprice has been on Deals sites or Social Media for more than a few minutes then the order will not be honoured - or the "misprice" was intentional ? Does that make sense ?

Golfforall I personally feel like you’re coming across as very condescending with comments like ‘I’m sure most intelligent folks know’. Those who were ‘heartbroken’ as you said, may have never experienced a glitch before and although common, I bet there are also many that are not familiar with the loss leader marketing strategy. These shared posts with deals/glitches/mispriced items may have never worked for you but it’s clearly worked on occasion for some of us.

Leesha86 Of course I've heard of "loss leaders" . This wasn't a "loss leader" it was an error that was never going to be honoured once it was shared on multiple sites and thousands of orders received . Nothing condescending about explaining that ?

I have found many many misprices myself over the years -😀 . But , as I advised members "condescendingly" ? I did not share them until I had received my item/s .

I managed to order the laptop but did receive a cancellation email this morning. Would've been an amazing price though if they honored it.

If it's one order or a few, it might go thru, but once it's posted then it's over.

Its the age old reason isn't . You want to share the glitch but then when it spreads like a bush fire and suddenly the glitch will then be cancelled and you don't get it . Occassionly I am lucky enough to get 1 or 2 and they have been brilliant .

I would love to say I received six delivered today, but I do not think anyone would believe me.

You have got to be in it to win it as my Nana used to say. If it comes off great if not, on to the next one. All part of the excitement

So agree emmabeckz . I have always had that philosophy and believe me it paid off .Our friend won the jackpot on the postcode lottery in 2017 and my wife nagged me until we joined . Thankfully 2 months after joining we won the postcode lottery for the street prize and that saying is so so true. Hope your ok Emma and keep up the great work . Can you pass onto Tom,Deepak and the rest of the team that they are doing a brilliant job and to stay safe and well .

Luckily I received my refund but it looks like a number of people online are still having issues getting their money back from Curry’s. It’s been 3 weeks, that’s terrible service on curry’s part.
