Too Dark Hair

Ask a Question

Hiya, used to wear blonde highlights but to save money and cover greys I started to dye my hair at home. It is too dark and don't like it. I know I have to wait until I dye it again to lighten it. Do you know something I can do in the meantime?

You can use hair mascara to cover up. They’re not expensive although obviously they don’t last long, as it’s more for touch ups than anything else

sunny101 when you use a colour remover it can make your hair brassy orangy colour. Not even a nice colour. You can't re dye your straight away after using a remover. You have to wait 4 to 6 weeks before you can apply a dye. So just be aware of this. It may be patchy.

tracisinclair01 Thank you - my friend has used this a few times because her shade has been too dark. Me - I'm a natural blonde so life is much easier. 😄

Once I died my hair to brown, but it turned to be dark brown, nearly black.

Went to the hairdresser and he told me it needs to be bleached 2x time, if I would like a lighter hair color. It would cost me a fortune, that time he said 130 pounds, so I went with hair cut and had very short hair instead. Since I did not dye my hair.

I am not sure it is something I would do myself at home, because it can go wrong. I think you need professional help.

Been there. Done that 😬. Use the Colour remover Sunny101 has posted. Iv used colour B4 on several occasions & it has usually lifted my colour by 2-3 shades. Home Bargains do a remover for around £3 but it's no where near as good as Colour B4. It does stink tho!!!

Only other option is to get it bleached.

Glitterandgold thanks for this but let me see if I understand. My natural colour is dark brown I used to wear blonde highlights and now I dyed dark brown to cover greys. Will this product lighten my hair or it will sh

ow my natural base which I don't want. Once applied can I dye again or do I need to wait?

GSM No, it won't take you back to your natural hair colour. It will only lighten your current dyed colour by a shade or two. How many shades depends on any colour build up you have. I think they do suggest a week period between using the remover & dyeing your hair again but being impatient Iv always just dyed my hair the same day with no problems. I would get a good mask for afterwards tho, hair can feel a bit dry after using the remover.

I would advise you to watch a couple of youtube clips on peoples results. It might give you a better idea of what to expect.🙂

Glitterandgold thanks so much, I will have a look. So if it lightens the hair a few shades that means if you are happy with that colour you won't need to dye it again?

Be very careful with remover, because you had highlights it could, become brassy.

You could use L'Oréal Paris glam bronde. It's a bit like highlights, but they are darker. It would soften the dark brown until you grow it out a bit. You have to be careful how often you dye your hair in a short time as it can damage to the point of breakage.

If it's really that bad you could buy a hat, especially as the weather is changing.😀

You can use eyeshadow the same colour as your hair. I have been using hair chalks recently as well which are a cheaper alternative to hair colour sprays
