Death of the Saturday Job?

Im not surprised that this is the case, especially if there are other ways to make money other than physically working on a Saturday
It’s a shame as I enjoyed mingling with others in my part time job when I was a teen
Sorry, I don't believe that students are prioritising study over work. If a student wants money they work nonetheless less, I think to be honest it's the workplace that is not providing jobs like they used to for teenagers.
I believe that to be the case also. The employment situation for casual workers is not great, and there are opportunities to earn money online, so it’s certainly easier to do that
When I was a kid, we were all for making money and I can't see that has changed since. As said, it's a bit of a joke saying students are doing more studying, I bet they are not. That's what they might be telling the BBC lol.
Back in the day we had time for both as we didn't have the curse of social media. You can bet that is what most of them are doing when they tell parents they are studying. Working would take away time from their precious gadgets, phones and tablets. The poor kids would get withdrawals!
I don’t think it’s because of studying. a lot of places now won’t take people on under the age of 18 because of insurance. but I also think a lot of parents dont help as they don’t encourage teens to work now and they give them everything they want.
Personally I think it's because we now all enjoy a far better standard of living .For many families ( not all, but more than there used to be) the parents will support and subsidies the children for longer than they ever used to, meaning that Saturday jobs are not the necessity they were.
I am a student now and I certainly don't think students are working less now than 20 years ago, in fact most students I know can't afford to live if they don't work alongside their studies, even with student loans. However now it's not just a 'Saturday job' working one shift a week, but students are working 20-30 hours a week alongside school/college/uni.
Its a shame id love a saturday job right now. So bored qithout job and having college during the week. Id be happy doing both satursay and sunday if someone would take me on.
