Decluttering

Ask a Question

Who's a good one for decluttering. Where do you start and how do you keep up the momentum?

Tips, advice, etc please?

I generally tackle one room at a time so it don't feel overwhelming. Make three piles in the middle of the room.Throw, keep or charity shop. Put some music on for motivation then start from one corner of the room and work your way round clockwise 🏠

Or 4 piles. Add another for selling, if you can make any decent money out of stuff you don't want.

MeestairChrees that's true. I generally make 3 and forget to make 1 for selling then realise I hadn't after it's all gone

Billie I had to do a bit of a clear out recently, but I'm a rush to do stuff, I just donated instead of going through the faff of selling. They were just clothes, but some had barely been worn and were practically brand new.

I love decluttering if not used for few months then you don't need I love the feeling after but then it builds again seems to come. Out of no where

I have a real issue with parting with things. Even Marie Kondo couldn't persuade me to part with any of my things. But a few years ago I realised that I’d only be happy with parting with something if I was to make money for it, so I started listing items online, and just sell as I go, albeit very slowly

You have to be in the right frame of mind to declutter and you also have everyone on board. You can't go chucking stuff away that might be broken (kids toys) but is dear to them. Nightmare.

I'm good at decluttering. I do it quite often. I have a cupboard upstairs that needs done. I take it one room at a time and one section of the room. So I'm currently doing the spare room and baby items. So I started with one wardrobe and got all the clothes to be recycled or donated sorted out. Then got all the baby items together. Now I need to sort out the junk in the second wardrobe. I just do little bits at a time. I stick on some music and just get on with it.

I do small areas at a time I take everything out hold it up and ask myself if I need it. For clothes I ask do I still wear it do I like it? Then I will donate and sell what I don’t need and put everything else back neater

In our house we always seem to be decluttering , but as fast as we do it we seem to reclutter , create a space and it's soon filled again.

Well, 2020 is going to be my year of decluttering, I'm sick of the crap that I surround my life with, so I'm taking action this year and sorting my life out once and for all.

I empty a cupboard or a drawer completely then i put back things i like and things i need/use. The rest goes up for sale, free to a good home, charity or recycling centre.

i think I’m good at it but really I just move stuff to different places and compact it a little more. I’ve so much stuff, well not me... the kids really. my sheds are full of their old toys and my loft old clothes. One day I’ll be ruthless and do it properly lol
