Any Diabetics Here?
Ask a Question
I've just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Test on tuesday, diagnosis on wednesday, kit received on thursday. I'm now getting established into testing myself six times a day.
Not after medical advice really - hopefully the doctors and midwifes have that covered but the dietician isn't available until next week so any thoughts/food ideas much welcomed. Must admit to feeling a little overwhelmed by it all - internet of course has lots of resources but lots of conflicting information also and I feel like so much information has been thrown at me that I'm not sure what's really sunk in!
They said if I can last a week without three bad results then I could stick to just trying to control it by diet but I've had my three bad results today alone. I don't want to go onto medication if I can avoid it.
I'm concerned about the changes in diet and finding snacking more difficult than the actual meal prep. I'm also concerned about the testing while I'm out and about - obviously it's medical equipment and it *looks* like medical equipment but it just makes me uneasy.
I hope no-one minds me asking as I know this isn't on par with fully-established diabetes. This will, if I'm lucky go when the baby is born. I would very much appreciate any insights though!
I would not like to make any observations about gestational diabetes, though I know what it is.
All I can say is I was diagnosed D2, refused medication (with agreement of nurse/doctor) and reversed it in 6 months by diet alone. However, I have been a bit naughty lately and am dreading next blood test due now. I will just have to try harder if I have slipped back.
Sounds like I am similar to you. Was diagnosed Type 2 about 6 years ago. Went on a strict diet and exercise regime and basically halved my weight. Now the Diabetic specialist at my doctors tells me I am on the threshold of being non diabetic.
blacklabrador Well done. I was lucky in that I had only recently tipped over the edge into diabetes but it must be a lot harder for those who have gone undiagnosed for a long time.
Hi I Was Diagnosed With Type 2 In 2004 I Was On 8 Tablets A Day Until The Start Of This Year After 2 Months
cutting Out Carbs ( Potatoes Rice Pasta Bread ) My Blood Sugar Is Reading Between 6 And 10
Which is About Half What It Was Before If You Can Watch A Program Called The Truth About Carbs (BBC I Think)
It Will Explain Everything
Well done to you too. I find carbs the hardest to give up. I cut out sugar but I think my body craves carbs for as you know carbs turn to sugar when eaten. I am due a blood test so will base my next steps on the results. Dr Michael Mosley does many programmes on it and his book about reversing diabetes is very informative and easy to understand.
Thanks, I did a shop today which has given me some more options food wise so am just taking it day by day. Results today have all been ok. :-)
