Dinner Disappointment
Other
This is a genuine request for recommendations after yet another disappointing sausage dinner.
Today's were Black Farmer gluten free as my sister recommended them but her's were Asda speciality gluten free.
Nearly every sausage I try has horrible chewy thick skins (never used to be) and the Richmond skinless always taste slimey to me. Have sausages changed so much in the last few decades?
I try a new one every few months and always end up throwing them.
So, do you have a favourite sausage, cheap or dear, well known or not and if so could you please explain why it is good. Thickness of skin, meatiness etc. Thanks in advance.
It’s not just sausages bacon has gone so bad too Tesco finest chipolats are nice we changed to these from Tesco because a lot of fat was coming out of them.
Morrison own brand are nice too but stock always low
Thanks Ann, haven't tried any Tesco ones for a while so when I feel confident will take a look. No car at the moment but crash claim is settled so no more courtesy car. Don't really need it while vivid still ride but will try and get one by Summer.
Lynibis I'd also reccomend Tesco Finest sausages. We like their chipolat for sandwiches, fry ups. If I'm making a casserole then I like their pork & apple ones.
Glitterandgold I will definitely will try them, I must admit I do like a sausage sandwich with brown sauce.
I love the Heck chicken sausages when on special offer, and I equally like the Aldi ones. I like these because they are healthier than standard pork sausages and are just as tasty.
That sounds more like it. I remember getting Bernard Matthews Turkey and pork ones which were my favourite way back when. They stopped doing them, is he even around any more, well the company. I have not heard of Heck, are they available in most supermarkets?
Lynibis Yes, they are available in most supermarkets. They look like this:
I've just tried Heck sausages and I thought that they were really nice. I just don't understand how the reviews are so bad.
Definitely worth a go at £1.50 a pop and they've got 97% meat in them.
I paid £3 for 6. I don't mind paying more if they taste good but will definitely try these, what the heck!
Had to come back to this topic to tell you I won a comp today, the prize? Heck sausages lol.
Mind you, there were some other prizes with it, including a bottle of gin, wah hey!
Lynibis Looks like they've got quite a selection albeit quite a few veggie ones
I tend to buy Frozen sausages. I get the Morrisons own ones or just the Aldi or Lidl ones, same when I buy fresh ones. We tend to have sausages as part of a dry, which normally means Lorne, so we don't buy that many link sausages, but when I do Aldi or Lidl value are the ones I buy. The skins aren't too thick, they aren't too fatty, nice taste. We either grill them or do them in the air fryer.
Lynibis they brown brilliantly in the air fryer. I use the air fryer for loads of different foods. It is great. Plus they use less energy than the oven so can help save money and better for the environment.
When our cooker broke on Christmas eve my husband was googling how to air fry a Gammon! It can be used for so many things.
We buy our sausages from the local butchers, they are very good quality. So if you have a local butcher give them a try. A lot of them do a gluten free option.
I am sure I must have a local butcher, it is terrible that I don't know but I will have a look next time I go out for my exercise walk!
I buy Waitrose British pork sausages and have never had an issue with them. I used to buy Icelands frozen sausages and my dad said they were the best he had ever tasted. I prefer sausages without any herbs etc added in.
I always find sausages from the butchers are really good. Thick and full of taste and a variety of flavours x
I get mine from the local butcher - they do regular pork sausages but they also do other sausages too like lamb and mint, which are also nice. I used to like Iceland’s own brand sausages but they changed something in them a while ago and they aren’t the same anymore.
I don't actually eat sausages but Mr Tumblespots does and I once won a years supply of Debbie & Andrews sausages which he did like the taste of but he thought they were too meaty and firm! If you are looking for a firm sausage - this could be the one. https://www.debbieandandrews.co.uk/
Thanks tumblespots if you look above to my chat with The Chimp you will see I have just won sausages too. However, I will keep in mind for another time.
Lynibis That's fantastic, congratulations, they all taste better when they are free (and gin too!)
thanks so much for this link tumblespots ...they sound just what we would enjoy! ...
