DIY Christmas Crackers

Other

I always make my own Christmas crackers each year but I’m running out of ideas to fill them. I’ve already got some perfume samples I’ll be using, some travel size deodorants and will add some smaller stationery items too, but I can’t think of what else to add. It can’t be food or drink in this case due to allergies and it being safer not to, although for a lot of people they could be an option too.

Does anyone else make their own? What else do you add, if you do?

What about lip balm or mini hand sanitizer or nail files

I can’t believe I forgot lip balm especially! I’m constantly using it myself. They’d be the perfect size! Thanks for the suggestions!

I picked up a couple of mini gonk tree decorations from The Range over the weekend. My plan is to add them to crackers for our guests.

You could also add nail polish, mini skincare creams, make up, keyrings, wax melts, jewellery, pair socks (rolled up tight) ....just from top of my head.

Wax melts I think would be a good idea! If some would be too big you could get something like this, I’ve bought these before https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wax-Melts-50x-Mini-Highly-Scented-Hearts-Soy-Wax-Oil-Burner-Many-Fragrances-/152575524525?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

I didn’t think to add decorations but they could work really well. I’ll have to see what I can get that would fit. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I think you have covered most items to go in a cracker, some great ideas. I was going to say ear-rings.

I know you said no food but i think it would be ironic to but some mini crackers inside a cracker , as frank carson used to say 'its a cracker '

That could work for any that don’t have any allergies and could be a bit of fun too! Thanks for the idea!

Lots of jewellery items, chains, charms, pendants etc.

Bookmarks?

Hairbands, the ponytail kind or the headwrap kind ?

Very thin scarves, chiffon type?

Handkerchief?

Depends how big the crackers are but maybe thin socks or tights?

Sorry already mentioned socks....

cocolgooh you can get nice sets with animals or flowers etc ...or play it safe with different self colours...

Sarahvwomble I think different colours would probably be safer, and would be used by everyone too. Whereas some people I know wouldn’t like it if they got floral ones haha. Thanks again for the suggestion!

Depending on the size tealight or votive candles, miniature make up items like mascara, lip balm, nail polish, hand cream, was melts, travel size shower gels, jewellery, keyrings, toys such as Lego, cars etc

You could also add some jokes, maybe use some off the LD joke thread , they are always used in conventional crackers

I usually add a joke and a hat too. I’ll have to take a look at the jokes thread for some ideas though!

Never thought of making my own crackers do you put the bang bit in them lol and are they easy 🤔

I personally don’t include it (as the dog is terrified of the bang sound) but you can get them from somewhere like The Works, Amazon or Hobbycraft. You can even buy kits to make the crackers with that include everything, or download a template from the internet and print it off then use your own papers to make them. They’re pretty easy - I usually get them all done in a couple of hours in front of the TV.

I used to put wind-up toys in my crackers - so we could race them across the table on Christmas Day . Similar to these:

Johnny I bought a set of crackers with these in a few years ago and the fun was absolutely phenomenal - great memories.

They’d be fun - I think I’ve seen a set of these sorts of toys in crackers before. And everyone could play along with the character they get. They’d be a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing!

Apart from the usual fragrance and beauty samples, I'm making Fimo wine glass charms, wax melt hearts, mini jar candles and miniature gin fusions. (I could really bore you with the list I've already made 😆 )

They all sound great! It’s fun adding handmade bits and pieces to them. I’ll be making some bookmarks to add in to mine as several of the people that’ll get them love to read.

Perhaps a festive themed one would work - I’ve seen some in festive fabrics in the shops recently! Thanks for the idea!
