Door to Door Charity Collectors

Other

Just had a man on my doorstep with some exciting good news for me.... turned out after listening to all his speak that my good news was to sign up and pay by direct debit at least £10 per month to his charity !! When I said no thank you he got quite forceful and belligerent so I shut the front door ! This is happening more and more often in my village and at all times sometimes 10pm !!!! Puts me right of giving to these charities specially when they are rude.

I was in the middle of changing my grandsons nappy as well so stopped that to answer the door. Really annoying

There's no real way to block them unless you'd have a gate of your own which you'd either allow in or not. Alternatively, just ignore the door beggars as they'll eventually try their luck elsewhere.

10 pm!!? That's crazy! I tend to look in the peephole and if it's not a delivery person I don't open the door (and step back down the corridor very quietly🤣)

They are so annoying. I wonder how many people actually sign up on the doorstep? If I wanted to give to charity, it's so easy to do it all online. These people are getting paid by the charity to do this. WTF

I used to have people come round when I lived in my old property. I would always tell them the truth, I'm getting married and planning to buy a house so any spare money goes towards that.

I do do donate to charity but on my terms and to the charity of my choice. Everyone has different causes close to their hearts

He got a bit shirty when I said I wasn’t happy doing direct debit and kept saying why and it was rediculous !!! Very rude. It’s a shame as it was for a worthwhile charity a children’s hospice but next time I won’t even answer the door.

Of course he got a bit shirty... with people like you (and me) about, he's not likely to be effectively earning the £15k (yes fifteen thousand pounds) a week some of these unscrupulous "chuggers" make.

I just tell them I prefer to give to charity without the likes of him or her acting as a middle man or woman. Many don't realise that because of the money these people make (I won't say earn) the charity doesn't get anything for a very long time.

This might interest some who are made to feel mean:https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/apr/04/secret-life-chugger-charity-fundraiser

I don't answer the door nowadays unless I'm expecting someone or a parcel. I keep getting people will clipboards wanting to sign me up to something. I have one of those 'no cold caller' signs on my door and that has proved useless in stopping them.

I give in lots of different ways but hate being intimidated by box rattlers and door to door.

It is hard when they have you trapped on your door step and really try to guilt you into signing up but I never do

It shouldn't be allowed for many reasons, nor should street chuggers. Pressuring someone doesn't exactly endear you to the cause. Plus, it's better to pay the charity directly.

they knock on your door as it more difficult to say no and also a lot of people sign up for a direct debit to get rid of them.

I've had them say all your neighbours have signed up ,which is rubbish as I never saw anyone else answer their doors!
