E-Scooter Rider Caught on the Motorway in the Fast Lane

In the News

This idiot was not only riding his e scooter illegally on a road, he was in the fast lane of the M23 motorway

To make it worse the battery was flat, so probably no lights either , although it fails to say

When police stopped him at 5.30 'am' he blamed his sat nav saying he was following its' instructions

He was lucky he wasn't flattened by the passing traffic

This was going to happen sooner or later. Although in principle e-scooters are a great way to get around I find a lot of the uses ride them dangerously with no thought for anyone else.

Clearly someone with no actual sense - who in their right mind would even try and drive one of those death traps on a motorway?

I thought these e scooters were banned because they don’t meet safety speeds.

Pjran One was caught doing 55mph the other day , it depends on the model and if the owner is technical , they can be adjusted to go faster , i don't think i have seen anyone using one below 25mph yet

Thats why people like the old lady sustained serious injuries a while ago when one ran into her

He got a jail sentence

The rider was aware he was breaking the law and had the effrontery to act innocent. Some people make me so annoyed with their lies.

jam45 Travelling that early in the morning in the fast lane wondered if he was drunk, not sure about the law on breathalysing e scooter drivers

I think you can take fairly slow vehicles onto a motorway like any moped/motorcycle over 50cc. So you could have one of those small engine 70cc step thru mopeds and they probably only get up to about 35mph. I wouldn't fancy it myself though.

Its taking a big chance there B, drivers on motorways don't take prisoners

telmel Yeah I've done a fair bit of motorway driving and would not like to be in a small slow vehicle. I tend to keep mainly to the left lane unless there is a very slow vehicle in front but you see so many going well over 70mph and recklessly overtaking. I'd rather have the fuel economy to be honest. I sometimes prefer driving behind a big truck (with a reasonable gap), they reduce the air pressure behind them giving me better fuel economy and I know I can brake faster than them in an emergency. What I hate is to be between two trucks then I have to change lane and find a better position. I used to drive a mini many years ago and motorways were definitely more frightening as overtaking was poor and not such a safe car plus the fun of a mini is throwing it around country lanes etc, its a rubbish experience on a motorway especially for your ears as it only had 4 gears so constantly at high revs.

Rules

Privately owned illegal at present every where on all types of road footpaths.

Where can electric scooters be used?

Currently, electric scooters can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission. It is effectively illegal to use them on public roads, on pavements, in cycle lanes and in pedestrian-only areas.

I never see anybody using the rental ones on Roads where I live, mostly just dumped blocking the pavement.
