Do You Eat Bananas, if So, How Do You Keep Them Please?

Ask a Question

After Tesco Potatoes I am now having trouble with their Bananas, I don't know if maybe it's something to do with the fridge on their wagon when out for delivery that is doing it but even the famous green bags haven't been keeping them eatable this past couple of weeks so I'm interested in how other people are keeping theirs please? Thanks x

Really? I did look on the Internet to see if I could do that but it said that it wasn't a good idea and that the skins would go black but I'll give it a go now, thanks Ann x

Get a piece of cling film and wrap it around the stalk tightly. It will keep the banana from ripening much longer with less black spotting. The worse storage is in the fridge. They are shipped in chillers so by the time they get here the are starting to over ripen.

Thanks ange, I think the chillers are the problem, the bananas are getting wet! I will try this and let you know, thank you so much! x

JoTarpley Just to clarify - not the whole banana - just the stalk. I performed this 'experiment' many years ago for my Mum who wouldn't accept that it would work. I tested with a couple off the same bunch and she gave in, gracefully, and never stored them any other way after that.

JoTarpley 😂 Forgive me but I sometimes get members complaining that there is no form on the comp to complete.......then I have to tell them that they go on the link first........

PS Toms are doing amazingly well on window sill without wrinkling and in brown paper bags, I've already made five bags of sauce and frozen for future dishes. Thanks again.

Yes separate the bananas and wrap cling film around each stalk, and keep them well away from other fruits and vegetables. Don’t put them in the fridge before they are ripe.

We have one of those little banana hooks. It's good because it keeps it separate from other fruit and then as they start to brown, the other fruit stays fine. It sounds silly but works well.

It doesn't sound silly at all, thanks for that SaverDeals x

I buy them and then eat them and then go to the shop if I want more. If you have too many and they go off then the wrapping of the stalks works well.

I get coop ones. Never had problem. Small bananas which ripe fast. I keep them in a bowl and we eat them fast.

If they get ripe and do not want to eat them can put them in fridge.

If the bananas are to green, than put an avocado next to them and they make each other ripe. It was in Deepak's book and I tried, it works.

I think the Co-op probably looks after their fruit and veg better than Tesco Agnes, I really shouldn't be having the trouble I have with them! Thanks for your advice though it's appreciated and I'll certainly have to check out the book you mentioned! x
