Do You Still Eat Food past Its Best before Date?

Other

Do you still eat food past its best before date? If it's bread and there's no mould I put it in the toaster until nearly dark brown and it still tastes good!

The Surprising Truth About “Best Before” Dates

1. Most consumers assume that these dates are regulated and standardized and therefore assume that their food has spoiled and is no longer safe for consumption on and after the “best before” date. This is false. It may in fact be completely safe to eat long after the expiry date.

Yes, I must certainly do. I've made a fruit cake from out of date fruit and am currently using out of date olive oil. I use my nose to tell whether something is good or not.

I’ve got boxes of muesli cereals out of date, they taste fine. Cheddar cheese seems okay too after the date and I keep veg in the fridge well past their best before dates but I wouldn’t eat meat past it’s best before date.

I attend Healthy cooking course in 2016 where the professional said it ok to eat fruits and veg after the use by date label. But with meat, fish, cheese, yogurt etc you have to be careful

Yes, best before is simply a guide. I don't like wasting food, so I tend to shop more frequently and only buy fresh items to last a few days.

yes certainly do and sometimes after the use before as well if it is still ok. some things are common sense. any milk that is off will smell and taste funny for instance.

Absolutely! I always check to see if it's ok by smell and how it looks ect. If you buy meat from a butcher it has no dates anyway!

Yes I do, I always trust my judgement and if looks and smell as normal then I have no problem with eating it. I only would hesitate to open a packet with meat if the use by date have passed.
