If you can sustain the quality of the writing, keep it original and fresh then the number of episodes doesn't really matter. Unfortunately, I usually give up on TV shows after 1 or 2 series as the story lines become too repetitive, dull or go off in a direction I don't like.

My thoughts exactly, even with some shows I get hooked on. I’m a fan of the Big Bang theory. I’ve had a break and haven’t really go into the last series as yet. Doesn’t mean I won’t watch them. Just a bit bored, but generally love the show!

I gave up on The Walking Dead a couple of seasons back.

For me it had lost its way, and was more about infighting and various factions getting at each other, the walkers seemed to be an after thought.

How many is too many? When a show has over 1000, but if you've been following that series since it premiered then it doesn't feel like much.

Soap operas for me are irrelevant and don't count as they're beneath TV series.
