The Eurovision Contest
Other
I remember this from my childhood days in the 90s but I never really grew attached to it and now, now it just feels like another music contest out of a ton that exist already. To add to that, some European countries decide to have its musicians sing in English than their native language which is just odd because they aren't keeping tradition by using their own mother tongue.
Yeah, I'm Mr. Complainy and I'm okay with that.
Plus, the Eurovision Contest has countries that aren't even part of our continent so.. whatever, I guess.
I love the Hungarian guys this year. The lyrics are cool and powerful, unfortunately they did not decide to scream in English. Since I heard the song, just screaming inside... Goodbye Summer XD
So how a metal band can win this, if they sing and scream in their native language????
I think the last time I watched Eurovision was back in the 90s as well. It’s always been a tad cheesy, but I got to learn a lot of European languages by watching it back in the day - just the basic phrases. And the music seemed more about vocal talent back then too. Now everything sounds the same, and the talent are all about showing off how outrageous they can be. So it’s ‘nil points’ for me!
Ditto. I don't know which singer Portugal used but it should have been Luisa Sobral whom is like an indie singer, not very well known but extremely talented. Luisa's music sounds like butter on bread, that damn good.
She also sings in French and English, if I recall correctly.
And if Canada (French side) were to get into this contest, Pirate de Coeur would be perfect. I'd watch just for these two musicians.
Almost left this one one. America? Ellie Goulding.
This last one I became a fan of after hearing it on Encore Radio (Texas). It took me sometime to find out who sang it as I didn't know.
Well, these are my picks. ^_^
Oh yeah, Spexy, I don't know how that annoying song won the content. It was absolutely horrible, repetitive and dull but somehow "different." Sigh.
Eurovision Contest should just end. Next year it won't even be in a European country.
The best thing about Eurovision are the Sign Language interpreters - give them a watch on You Tube - brilliant!
This would have kinda made sense as a joke viral song on YouTube but for an actual contest? What the hell. Quality music gets replaced with garbage like this.
Anyway, imo, most radio stations are also pretty crappy which is why I stick to just Encore Radio (US) and Cadena Dial (Spain). Dunno about a good UK station but they just play American music either way.
I watch it every year and I really enjoy it. Graham Norton's commentary is always brilliant! I was very disappointed with this years winning song though. There were much better songs in the competition that deserved to win but that it just my opinion and I am sure lots of people love the winning song.
Sure, but the way folks described the winning song just didn't do a precise job at it. It's a messy, incoherent song but.. uh, you know, it's different.
It is about women equality issues, powerful women, so hot topic nowadays, that is what people say.
AgnesFaludi I agree it is a hot topic, but not sure that the song got that message across. The other songs were much better.
MrsCraig it honestly sounded a bunch of gibberish to me with toy cats in the background. How it won.. that's a mystery.
AgnesFaludi Ellie Goulding, Coeur de Pirate and/or Luisa Sobral would have done a much better job at that. Than, uh, this 'talented' singer.
Rockman Ellie can not sing....uggggggggggggggghhhhh.....she has so many effects on her voice, that anyone could do that.
Any ways, seems like the level of the show went down so we need to send Honey G if we want to win anything there XD..
AgnesFaludi agree to disagree there but at least Ellie's lyrics are clear, precise and straightforward.
Since you brought up the women equality thing, I've seen a ton of cafe bars (Iberian Europe) that specifically ask for female employees than male. Women already have equality in the West but people in US, CA, FR and UK keep protesting it like they don't.
I can't blame these cafe owners to prefer female employees to male ones as it makes the place a little bit nicer in a way. Tbh, I can't remember too many cafes with male cashiers, oh well.
Same goes for supermarket stores, too. And etc.
Life is good in the West. Enjoy it.
