Eurovision - Love It or Loathe It?

Ask a Question

Who will be watching tonight?

Not me .. I hate how it's not a song contest any more, the Eastern block countries all vote for each other and one of them always wins.

I know loads of people love it though

I loathe it because it's become so political and haven't watched it in years. That said........we've decided to watch it tonight but we will record it and then start watching at about an hour in so that we miss the worst of what it's become. Food and drinks, in large quantities, will accompany the viewing and we'll critique, ruthlessly!

We'll finish watching before the scores start because that's just painful. 0️⃣ points I have friends that make a real party of it and have previously ended up with full beards drawn on with eyebrow pencil/eyeshadow. 🤣

I used to love watching this when I was younger but as you say it has got very political and it’s not enjoyable anymore

Interesting that people are saying how it’s become political. We used to watch back in the 50s and 60s and my dad used to complain that it was political and countries like France wouldn’t vote for us!

Update - I can't take any more! I really thought I could sit it out but I can't and I could well be over fed and overly imbibed if I watch any more. 😆

I don't watch it nowadays as its not really my sort of music but used to watch it in the past but nowadays there are more entertainment options which are better. Now that I can pick and choose what to watch at any time there are many programs now that just don't interest me anymore. I'm spoilt for choice really.

I used to watch it sometimes, not every year, but I haven't seen it in recent years, I don't think I'm interested in it anymore.

Watched it and I think the songs weren't as good as other years. Italy deserved it in my opinion.

Well done Amanda Holden, classy as ever, trying to be funny, stick to what you are good at, whatever that is.

Considering it costs the UK £310,000 to enter I think it's about time we gave the competition a miss and put the money to better use. Just my opinion.

I used to watch it, but hate the politics now.

more and more countries each year sign in English, but we never get points now.

they should not state the country and then it would be unbiased

Indifferent, I haven't watched it for years as regardless of how good our song is, it's guaranteed to get Nil points and that was even before we left the EU.

Have you seen the latest Eurovision: Italy's winner denies snorting cocaine

I personally think the uk should never enter it again all it is doing is destroying the career of the person entered no matter what they will be remembered as the ones that got 0 points Europe could not make any clearer how they feel about us

They should be made to give the vote and a reason for that vote, eg '' we voted the UK nil point as we dislike the english and the fact they voted for brexit '' 🖕

Well I actually enjoyed it! There were some really good songs this year and the production of the whole show as really professional and less cringeworthy than has often been the case. The low point was clearly Amanda Holden making a joke about not understanding foreign languages - when the rest of Europe managed to do the whole show in English, including the 10 year old Greek lad who managed better English than Holden did herself. She just highlighted why so many in Europe think we are arrogant. OK so our song probably didn't deserve 0 points - but compared to most of the others it was pretty rubbish. We should have come above the awful German entry though, but thats just about it.

I watched it this morning. The one thing that annoyed we was they kept referring to Italy's song as metal/heavy metal when it wasn't even close! It was a rock song, possibly alternative rock, but not metal! I wasn't really fussed on the songs this year. There were some good ones but none of them really stood out for me.

Missed it, as I’ve missed all the previous eurovisions for a couple of decades. It’s more about politics than music

It's not something I watch. I don't enjoy the music they play or the structure of the show. They should just play Jaja Ding Dong instead.
