Is It Ever worth Getting Things at Duty Free Shops?

Other

Having visited a few duty free shops recently, I don’t believe the prices are that cheap. Most things can be found cheaper online. It’s only maybe the expensive perfume I found was cheaper at the airport

I don't feel as if I have ever got a bargain at duty free. But one time I got a couple of bottles of alcohol for gifts (truly!) And hung the bag on the hook by the handle. I loaded the trolley, leaving the bag hanging......so someone had a free drink or two on me!

Oh no that’s a shame! The alcohol is expensive at airports, but obviously cheap enough to not deter drunk passengers, which is another issue altogether

You can find some good deals in airports. Sometimes airports will also have exclusive items, such as a particular type of whiskey, that can't be bought elsewhere. Or if you're waiting to fly home you may find items you didn't know were available or couldn't find them elsewhere.

I’ve noticed that they have expanded their premium alcohol ranges, although I plain refuse to buy any as I think it’s outrageous they don’t let me carry my own drinks through security when they’re more than happy to sell as much as they want afterwards. There’s one time I got very annoyed as I bought alcohol at one airport, but they never put them in sealed bags, so when I transited through another airport, they wanted to confiscate them, even though my items clearly were purchased at duty free

hspexy It can be frustrating. I tend to only buy alcohol in duty free that is difficult to get, unavailable or considerably more expensive in the UK. My main gripe is the alcohol allowance is quite low 🥃

I don't think it is. Some small things like Accessorize and Cath Kidston can be because you can clearly see the price difference but the bigger ticket items really don't seem to be that noticable.

Cigarettes, always have loads of buyers at work! End up covering 1/4 sometimes half of my holiday cost. Check customs rules online before you buy larger qty
