Are You a Fan of Hot Tubs?

Ask a Question

Many years ago before hot tubs became fashionable my sister bought one and had it installed in a summer house. I declined invitations to join in because it seemed alien to share a bath with half a dozen people. Am I odd?

Not at all. I don't like them for the very same reason - I don't want to bath with either friends or strangers!

They are the must have item this summer apparently and are even being stolen from peoples gardens.

Pjran There must be an awful lot of people who actually DO like to bath together then, it would be one of my ideas of a hellish day/night out and I wouldn't join in for all the tea in China.

Does that mean you never go swimming in a pool with other people?

I am a hot tub owner and will happily share with others. The water is chemical balanced to rid of bacteria etc, the same as in a swimming pool. The hot tub is just a lot more cosy! It is good for social interaction.

I always ask my guests to shower beforehand as this will reduce the germs too...

Metrovski I’m glad you’ve joined in this post. I’m sure many love their hot tubs.

Pjran Yes, many people do enjoy their hot tubs. So, in answer to my question, do you go swimming in swimming pools?

Metrovski That's right. I just don't want to share my water with other people wherever it is. I have known of some terrible occurrences in public swimming pools - I'm sure you can use your imagination to guess what!

I agree with you I think it’s really a weird concept to have a bath with a load of people. It’s basically human soup! And since reading a lady lost a leg after contracting meningitis from using one I’ll never ever use one

Oh dear that’s shocking, poor lady. You really wouldn’t think twice about getting meningitis from a hot tub.

I shared a competition to win a hot tub today, but I won't be entering it myself. I've never been in one, and I don't think I would want to. Not my kind of thing either.

I remember a friend telling me how they had night of passion under the stars in their hot tub. Do you think family and friends would want to share their pool, well not me!

I like a hot tub but I will always shower before and after, but I have a friend who won't go into one, even when it bought it as a gift as she said she didn't want to pick up any infections, if someone had athletes feet etc. She completely turned me off them 🙂

They can be therapeutic with the warm water but I still wouldn’t want to share with friends.

I love mine but always shower afterwards

We sit in it with a few beers at night 🤗🍺

Was in a log cabin last year with one

I don't fancy the infection aspect ...yet I have to admit before Covid we used the jacuzzi at the local pool

At least they check the chemical levels daily so you should be safe.

We have a hot tub and only use it for family members who live in the house. I would never want to share with friends.

Very sensible. Is yours heated? I know my sister said hers was expensive to run.

Pjran Ours is heated but we solar panels so isn’t expensive to run. Even if we did have to pay more it’s well worth it.

I have a hot tub, it's only been used about 30 - 35 times. It was expensive to run so it's not been used for a couple of years. Will try and sell it next month as it's my white elephant in the garden. Image

Two of my family have them but I’ve only been in once. More trouble than they’re worth for me I’m afraid.

I agree, they’re fine in the summer but expensive to keep the water at the right temperature once it gets chilly.

Not for me, I have tried them but I find them the opposite to relaxing and get extremely agitated I think that's down to the temp of the water (I don't like baths either or being to warm) and this is when it's just me, I dislike the thought of sharing with other people more so.
