Are You a Fan of Plant-Based Milks?
Ask a Question
I usually have full fat cow’s milk, but recently I’ve tried the different plant based varieties you can get with Alpro - such as cashew, almond, coconut, oat and soya - and they are quite tasty, particularly the oat and soya
I don’t think I’ll ever give up cows milk, as I still like it in my tea, but the others are great for cereals, making shakes, etc.
Are you a fan of plant-based milks? What do you use them for?
Yes,I like alpro too.Oatly barista is my favourite, great in coffee
I use them for baking too,hot chocolates with some squirty cream(Morrison's sells a dairy free cream)...on cereal, use it for my protein shakes x
I've yet to try the barista varieties but I do have one in the cupboard, which I will look forward to cracking open. It already looks yummy
I like them, especially any almond or hazelnut variety. However, I don't buy them very often as I don't put milk in my tea or coffee and prefer natural bio yogurt on my cereal. Pea milk is also a healthy option, amongst other things it has 50 percent more calcium than cows milk https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/the-health-hub/food-drink/diets/dairy-free/what-is-pea-milk/
Thanks for sharing the info. I’ve heard of pea milk but I’ve yet to try it. There seems to be so many plant alternatives, it’s definitely something I’m willing to look more into
I have never actually tried them. We just have whole milk in the house for my son and semi skimmed for cooking. I'm assuming you can use them to make things like white sauce etc but I'm not sure what it would taste like.
A lot of them seem to be tasty these days. when they first came out, some were just horrid, and so expensive. You can pick them up for the price of milk these days, so worth looking into
For some reason I have never really liked the plant based milks unless it’s hidden in a milkshake. Full fat cows milk all the way!!
Have you tried many different ones? I didn't like coconut milk so for a while turned my nose up at all alternatives but since I tried oat milk I wouldn't go back. There's so many different ones so perhaps you just haven't found one you like yet
I know what you mean, but there really are some tasty ones out there now. Before there wasn’t much variety and they were expensive
I recently switched to oat milk a few months ago and love it, I much prefer it, it's much more ethical and environmentally friendly too! Plus, it's handy as I can buy a few at a time due to it being longer-lasting that cows milk. I won't be going back
I was surprised but how delicious oat milk was, and it’s certainly got a more wholesome taste to it. I still love my cows milk though
the Alpro ones are very delicious, and most are on offer somewhere at some time, so always worth shopping around and never pay full price
Yes me and my wife went vegan in January and we have tried all different brands of plant based milks. Alpro seem to have the most nutrients and actually healthy substance in their milks. I’ve noticed a lot of the other brands are heavily watered down and don’t offer much in terms of B12 etc.
If your trying these milks outfit the first time you may like the sweetened versions to start with. We tried these and liked them but we have now got used to only buying the unsweetened varieties.
Good advice - You’re right about the unsweetened varieties, as they do seem quite bland, but I don’t mind them. They’re fine if you’re using them for cereals, etc.
I think the Alpro milks are sweet or the none sweet ones are very tasteless and they fill the tummy more than milk.
I like some of them, but not all. i find pea milk disgusting.
I really like cow milk and I prefer the taste too.
Lol I’ve yet to try pea milk, but I’m willing to give it a go and find out how disgusting it really is
