Tom we bought this 'basic' TV in April 2020 from Boots Large Appliances, ยฃ230. It has no real fancy bits and it's not connected to our internet. VEL50FO01UK TV in Black 50 inch TV from Veltech. 'Everything you watch will be super-sharp and clear thanks to the Full HD resolution, while Dolby Sound technology makes sure it all sounds stunning too. Plus, Freeview gives you access to plenty of channels to keep you entertained โ€“ but if thatโ€™s not enough, thereโ€™s a USB port that can play movies and music, or record anything for later. And, it also comes with 3 HDMI and 2 USB inputs to hook up your consoles, Blu-ray player and other external devices, so youโ€™ll never be bored on a rainy day'. It works well for what we want TV, DVD, Netflix ๐Ÿ™‚

You can often find basic 32" and 40" LED/LCD tv's but above that you often find the smart features come for free and they work out sometimes cheaper than the more basic sets. I saw you could get a basic quality 4k 50" smart tv recently and at the same retailer I saw they had a 50" 1080p non smart tv for the same price. You wonder who would not want the 4k set in that comparison?

One good thing if you don't want a smart tv is if you can find an old lightly used Plasma tv they still give absolutely fantastic pictures especially for standard definition. My mother has a Panasonic plasma tv which is about 8 years old I think and she has it on pretty much 10 hours a day so the panel has some burn in i.e. sky logo but the tv still gives a truly fantastic smooth display superior to many sets you buy today. I saw a Panasonic plasma on facebook marketplace that had very light use and only went for about ยฃ50 and they were originally about ยฃ1300.

A "Basic" TV is a TV without apps, so.. any TV out there, basically.

Then, to use apps, he or she could buy an Android TV Box, Chromecast, Fire Stick or an Apple TV. Plenty of choices.

I personally don't see the point buying a Smart TV since I already have what I want.
