First Car Boot Sale At Weekend. Request For Advice Please. Thank you.
Ask a Question
Hi, my sister and I are doing our first car boot sale at the weekend. We've got our floats, clothes rail, sheet, table and wanted to ask is there anything else we may need? Thank you
Large flask of coffee/tea...
Plenty of change...
Eyes in the back of your head ..
A really thick skin...
Soon as you get there really early...you will be surrounded by alot of dealers and people who want all your goodies for next to nothing...
Be prepared for any good stuff to be stolen...
Make up a couple of sarnies...
Have fun....
Hi ellenmcmurchie thanks so much for your advice. I didn't think about needing eyes in the back of your head part. I'll put the good stuff on the table near to us. I'm not that good tbh but my sister has skin like a rhino That's a great idea about sandwiches, I thought about drinks but not food. I'm sure it'll be fun once there. Thanks again, I really appreciate your advice
ellenmcmurchie Hi, i hope you're doing well. It was really fun, it's great when you start selling things you no longer want. I made Β£112.20 and my sister close to Β£150. I'm hooked now Your advice made all the difference thanks so much
A bum bag with plenty of change that you can keep on your person.
Plenty of bags to wrap purchases.
a radio
a couple of fold up chairs if you have them
fingerless gloves
As ellenmcmurchie said, you will be surrounded by traders as you try to set up, which can be quite intimidating. Get your sister to tell people to come back once you have set up your stall. I hope you have good fun and a profitable day!
Hi gerrykelly25, thanks very much for your kind reply. I've added carriers bag to my list and that's a brilliant idea about bringing a radio. My sister has some fold up chairs so I'll remind her to pack them and that's a great idea about fingerless gloves. I'm hoping it'll be fun and I'll sell stuff. I will tell her about asking people to returning once we've set up. Thanks so much for your tips and I hope you have a lovely weekend
Dani1 car boot sales are a great way to de clutter and make some money at the same time. Hope you have a great day. Let us know how you get on. I bet you will get the bug now and will be doing them regularly!
Hi gerrykelly25 good evening. That's so true it was great to declutter and make a few pounds for sure. Thanks very much for your great advice, it really made a difference to the day. I've definitely got the bug now and will be doing one very soon
If you, like a lot of us, have a bag full of carrier bags in your house, take them with you and if people buy larger items, give them a bag, it also encourages more spending if people don't have to carry things separately. As ellenmcmurchie said, you have to have thick skin, you will get people that want to buy something brand new and expensive for 10p and will haggle for ages before walking away empty handed, unless you want to accept an offer, don't be pressured. Good luck and hope you come back with an empty boot and full pockets
Hi Dilligaf, thanks so much for your reply. That's such a good idea about giving them out bags for larger items and that it makes it easier for people picking up extra things. I will stick to my guns if offered 10p for new items like clothes with tags on etc. You've made me think and I realise I would prefer to donate to a charity shop if offered 10p for something new as they would profit more. I'll try not to be pressured into a sale I'm not happy with and will get my youngest sister to jump in if needed. Hopefully I'll leave with loaded pockets for sure I really appreciate your help and advice, thanks again
Dilligaf thanks very much, I'm feeling less nervous now and looking forward to it. Your advice was brilliant, thanks
All the best with the car boot sale Dani be prepared to deal with a lot of people that want to haggle with over price
Thanks so much for the best wishes, that really is kind of you. Fingers crossed it'll be ok after the first sale and will be fun. I hope you are having a lovely day
Take change and keep it separate from the money you earn. If you have a clothes to sell best to take a rail or hire one if possible. Take carrier bags and stick to your gun over price. Also watch out for old or foreign coins.
Hi MichelleKe42857 thanks very much for your help. My sister has borrowed a rail from her friend so that's handy for the clothes. That's a great idea about keeping the money separate and also about looking out for old coins. I really appreciate your advice. Have a lovely day
You've had some great tips here and there is only one I would add. Make sure you and your sister stay 'aware' of each other and that you are not sidetracked by a pair of customers - one keeping you fully occupied with banter..... Sad to say but it's a well known ploy from the accomplice to lift something near the front of the table. Hope you do well.
Hi angemski, thank you for your lovely reply. I have had some brilliant tips from everyone here for sure. I will talk to my sister and make sure that we are aware of what's going on around us just in case. Thank you so much for your help and I hope you're having a lovely evening
Hi SalmaS thanks so much. It was gear fun and we made more than we thought we would. I hope you're having a lovely evening

Hi, KirsteyJames it really was great and the time flew. Thanks so much for the good luck wishes. I hope you're having a lovely evening
Hi everyone Good Evening. Thanks so much for your good luck wishes and brilliant advice. It really was fun and i made Β£113 .20 to be precise My sister around Β£150 and we took everything left to the charity shop. A couple of people were pushy and tried to wear me down with 20p offers for brand new things but I just said sorry I would like more Will definitely do more boot sales (I'm hooked) when it's a bit warmer though Thanks again, all your advice was wonderful x
angemski thanks so much. It was fantastic to make that amount on things we no longer needed. I sold a lot of my son's clothing. I hope you're having a lovely evening and thanks for your advice about keeping an eye out and your good wishes
Hi MartinBluck, good evening. We had a great time and made a nice amount. Thanks so much
A table cloth nice and bright loads of change don't stand with folded arms be ready to approach and don't let them undercut too much cause they will pressure you also keep eyes peeled on the shifty pocketers ood luck have fun
