eyeballkerry, Salt was meant to make witches weak, so the pinch signified the use of salt to weaken the witch, while the punch was then administered to banish the witch for good. Saying the words 'pinch punch for the first of the month' therefore became a way of welcoming in a new month and protecting yourself from bad luck.

Slightly worried as I’m left handed so luckily I was not around back then.

My husband taught me that last year and now I do it. He does regret it as I pinched punched him at 6am this morning (the minute he woke up hahaha)

No way !! Its "Rabbits " for me .

Your first utterance of the month must be the word "Rabbits " , always worked for me (not this month though my Premium Bonds didn't come up . So must be the Lottery on Saturday ) .
