What is the First Thing You Brought Online during Quarantine?

Ask a Question

I'm sure you all saw the crazy news about everyone stockpiling on toilet roll, hand sanitiser, the lot, so I want to hear some new news! What kind of things did you buy when you first found out you were going to possibly be in lockdown?

My first purchase (ever and coincidently during lockdown!) was Turmoil (reduced to £6.99) on Steam, and then a personalised necklace for my mum's birthday, a personalised jar for my best friend around easter and also a walker for my baby sister's 1st birthday!

Wine.

I usually make sure that I have a enough of the essentials anyway, so the lockdown hasn't affected us too much.

And we've been lucky with delivery slots too.

Fair enough! And yeah, I'm so glad my mum has always been prepared in stocking up, even years before this pandemic. It was a good job we sorted through the cans (expiry dates) a month prior though, as we stocked up on much more before everyone else. And that's good - it's a bit of a battle for them here, including a few restless nights (thank you, baby sister!) so my mum has managed to nab a few then!

1m0g3n The only thing that I really need to get is a present for the wife's birthday later this month.

I haven't got a clue what to buy her.

She doesn't drink much and thinks that flowers are a waste of time because they're expensive and just die.

I think that I'm just going to have to cook her some nice food this year and give her a present IOU and do something in the future.

TheChimp It's a good excuse not to buy anything. I look forward to hearing how that pans out though.

TheChimp You can't go wrong with making her a nice meal! That would be very sweet. I'm sure she'd love that. You could also get her some jewelry or something - I got my mum a necklace for her birthday with all her kids names on it (me included), and she loved it. Maybe something like that could work. What kind of meal were you thinking?

1m0g3n She's not interested in jewellery in any way, so I can't do that.

I'll probably make a Chinese. Maybe a chicken chow mein and king prawn fried rice with Chinese curry sauce.

TheChimp maybe you could promise her a weekend away, or just a nice day out somewhere, once this is over? Chinese sounds good though!

TheChimp A chinese sounds amazing! I think making her a meal like that would be really thoughtful, better than something you just make anyway. My dad really appreciates made meals for his birthday - I made him a cheesecake for his birthday cake, and he loved it (or said he did, haha)!

I've only bought a jacket online since the start of the lockdown. I would order more, but I've had issues getting post where I live 😷

ACR Hermes is a nightmare! We have to really limit what we can buy online since they just auction off parcels and haven't delivered parcels to us for years. It's really annoying finding something you like online (like they cheap easter egg deal for Thorntons - I'll find the link later) and not being able to order it since it comes via Hermes. What kind of jacket did you get?

1m0g3n Sorry to hear that... I've been doing a lot of walking during the lockdown and wanted a light waterproof & windproof jacket for when I'm out and about.

ACR Yeah, it sucks, haha. Sounds like a fair enough purchase - I need one like that. If I grab a coat, it's my big, winter coat, so I look like an eskimo if I go outside, haha

Some bits to work from home and that's it. Birthday presents are waiting until I'm able to see people.

I'm lucky in that most people I'm close with have a birthday and live in the same household as me, so I just ordered them to my house and stored them in my room until the birthday time came. I'm upset my best friend couldn't come and see my baby sister for the whole day for her birthday like planned for months, but if it is saving lives, then that's fine - we can throw a belated birthday party when this is all over.

We were already well stocked in our house as we always have essentials and our freezer is normally full too. Since lockdown I've bought some clothes and shoes for my son as he had grown out of them and done our food shop online, which we did before lockdown anyway.

My son absolutely adored his walker! Ready helped him to learn how to walk. He still loves to play with the activity centre on the front. My mum managed to get it in the mothercare sale for less than half price and it has been the best present he has gotten.

Yeah - my mum made sure of that here too! Thankful for her years of organisation. We used to do our big shops online, clothes and food, so my mum was used to it anyway!

Yessss! How old is he? My baby sister is certainly whizzing round with her walker (she has two, one she stood in from 0-1, and one I brought her for her birthday with she can push which has a music, piano and a numbers function. She adores the music part, as she always has been one to boogie and giggle when she listens to music. I am so glad I got her a walker since she loves the activity part too, and loves running after us (full on running - a bit scary!).

1m0g3n he got his for his 1st birthday too, he is 17 months now and is really confident on his feet, wants to walk everywhere. He has one which you can push and he was so fast with it, he would be running after us too! You had to move out his way or you were getting run over! His one also has music, numbers and a piano part and he loves pressing all the buttons and hearing the music. The smile on his face when the music starts playing just melts your heart.

MrsCraig 17 months! Aw, bless him. My baby sister was 1 year old on the 26th last month. Yes! She'll still run at you if you don't move! My baby sister loves the word 'cat' too, so she'll run at you saying that, or say it to get you to press the music button again, so she can continue dancing. I love the smiles when the music plays, and the way she pops her head along to the music. I can't imagine what I'd be like for my own children in the future, as I am the same: my heart absolutely melts at her smiles, and laughs, and dancing!

1m0g3n they are just so cute at that age! My son is a big music lover, put it on the tv and he will just sit and watch them for ages with a big smile on his face. My son runs round saying cheese and dada. Doesn't matter what it is, it is either cheese or dada!

Agreed! I ordered some trainers a few weeks prior (which actually matched my part time work uniform 😂). A shame I haven't gotten to walk in them too much, but I do use them when I go out cycling for my one exercise a day!

Yessss - we love a good deal. I hope he liked/likes the gift! I hope you got the opportunity to facetime him on his birthday if he doesn't live with you - I suspect a lot of people will be throwing belated birthday parties when this is over.
